Marc Schreiner - Tenor

It's time.

About Me

Marc Schreiner, possessing a voice of unusual color and range, and a commanding athletic stage presence, has emerged as one of the most exciting lyric tenors of his generation.
Recent engagements have included:
Il Duca In Verdi's Rigoletto with Syracuse Opera, Lysander in Britten's Midsummer Night's Dream, and Cassio in Verdi's Otello with Des Moines Metro Opera, George Shannon in Michael Ching's Corps of Discovery with Fargo Moorhead Opera. and most recently asAlfredo Germont in Verdi's La Traviata with The Lake George OperaOf Schreiner's Alfredo the Daily Gazette of Schenectady said:
"Schreiner brings movie star good looks to the production along with a voice of great tenor quality and ample heft. He can finish off a big aria with a bang and he got the performance off to a solid start with the first act drinking song all about toasting beauty. His first act duet with Roberts was also a knockout."
The Times Union said:
"Marc Schreiner (Alfredo) is a tall and handsome tenor--still something of a rarity in the world of opera. Fortunately his voice is excellent; he handles the music easily, with ringing high notes."
The Saratogian said:
"Alfredo was sung by tenor Marc Schreiner who has a natural ease in his singing and his acting."--
Upcoming engagements include:
Pinkerton in Puccini's Madama Butterfly with the Battle Creek Symphony, Il Duca in Verdi's Rigoletto with the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra, Narraboth in Salome by Richard Strauss with the Toledo Opera, andLaurie in Mark Adamo's Little Women with Syracuse Opera.A devoted student of modern works, he has been seen as Peter Quint in Britten's Turn of The Screw with Nashville Opera, where he received the following rave:
"As sung by Marc Schreiner, a handsome Texas Tenor, Quint is about six-and-a-half feet of lithe phallic force, serpentine in the women's dreams." --The Tennessean. In addition, he has covered Peter Quint for Minnesota opera.
Mr. Schreiner has enjoyed working with innovative directors: Robert Wilson on Houston Grand Opera's production of Four Saints in Three Acts, which toured the Lincoln Center Festival and the Edinburgh Festival under the baton of Dennis Russell Davies; Peter Zadek in the Salzburg Festival Production of The Rise And Fall Of The City Of Mahagonny, available on Kultur DVD. He also has performed the first tenor part in Weill's Seven Deadly Sins, Martin in the Tender Land with Bronx Opera, Albert, in Britten's Albert Herring, and The Magician in The Consul with Des Moines Metro Opera, where the Des Moines Register said: "Marc Schreiner combines a sense of desperate urgency with a somewhat sinister attitude to play the Magician."
In addition to modern Operas, Marc has also performed with Houston's EZCredit Theater in several productions which marry Opera, Modern Dance, and Electronic Music.
Marc Schreiner has also had notable success in standard repertoire, having portrayed Ramiro In Rossini's La cenerentola in several productions, most recently with Des Moines Metro Opera. Other roles include Tamino in Die Zauberflote and Paolino in Cimarosa's Il matrimonio segreto; and the title role in Faust, which he covered for Minnesota Opera. Marc has performed Eisenstein in Die Fledermaus, Pluto in Orpheus in the Underworld, and the romantic leads in The Mikado and The Gondoliers, with the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Houston.
Mr. Schreiner's oratorio repertoire includes Handel's Messiah, and Haydn's The Creation, both performed with the Austin Symphony, and The K.P.E. Bach Magnificat, and numerous Bach Cantatas. His concert appearances have also included frequent dates with well-known world music ensemble, "The Gypsies," singing the tangos of Carlos Gardel.
A native of Rollingstone, Minnesota, Mr. Schreiner received a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from Simpson College, and a Masters in Vocal performance from the University of Houston, Texas.
