I'm an artist. I'm a musician and a story teller. I write, produce and perform my own songs. I have already received critical acclaim for my work from music reviewers. I have also been featured in various print media, all noting my hard work and talent. RADIO EP is my first release since ‘Eighties Disco’ back in 2006 and the much talked about demo single ‘Charlie Manner Vs Mullet Head’ late last year. The two releases were very different from each other. ‘Eighties Disco’ was a fat full Dance track, while ‘Charlie Manner Vs Mullet Head’ was a stripped down Pop song with a Hip Hop influence. With RADIO EP I took the Dance elements and Minimalism I had worked with before and worked them into what I would describe as a ‘groove record’.
The songs on this record are about taking charge. Realizing when something is over and when something new is beginning. Focusing on what you want and doing your hardest to get it. Whether it’s in a relationship or in getting something you’ve always wanted, there are things and people who get in your way and this record is saying “Get out of my way or I’ll push you”. I have been called “a renegade to the norm” and a “visionary” but that’s not what I try to be, this is who I am. I’m not chasing anything except happiness. It comes closer and closer every time I perform, write a song or compose music.

Charlie Enlightens Through Darkness
Reaction to Article By Shannon Connolly
I have just been featured in Northglen News (16 Novemeber 2007) and I'm very happy with the article. Miss Connolly really understood what I'm about and delivered the article very well. I especially liked her opening line "Only in relation to darkness can we truly experience light...".
I'm just doing what I enjoy and using my music and more recently, film, to ask certain questions that I feel have gone unaswered for far too long. It all ties together with Eighties Disco, Deeper Than The Flesh, and my music and I hope that people enjoy it and take something meaningful from it.
Thank you Miss Connolly for an insightful article. You are truly gifted and may it not be the last.

FREEZE FRAME FILM FESTIVAL
The first ever One Minute Freeze Frame Film Festival was held in my hometown of Durban on Friday 9 November. 47 films were screened including my "Deeper Than The Flesh" which got great feedback from 'creative industry people'. It was an exciting evening because this was my first venture into film and to see myself projected on the big screen was sort of an out of body experience. I can't remember any sounds, just the images of me up there.
As the name suggests, the objective of the Fixed Frame Film Festival is to create a 60 second movie contained in a single frame. No pans, tilts or dolley shots: "Fixed Frame"!
"Deeper Than The Flesh" was a look at how superficiality rules our lives. The 'Newspaper Set' symbolizes how we view the world in black and white. Things are either right, or wrong. I believe that this type of thinking is what stops us from being truly happy, or close to it. If you can't love and accept someone because of their outward appearance or life experience (gothic, emo, druggie, drunk) then how can you say you have love for anyone else? You may just be in love with an image and not a heart...
It was a lot of fun and I will definitely be making my submission for the 2nd FFFF. I will also be posting the film in the weeks to come on my growing YouTube channel. Also, a special thank you goes out to all of who who wished me well for the night.

FEATURED MYSPACE USER
There are so many wonderful people here on MySpace. People who actually have something to contribute. Today almost anyone can be famous. I think it's a shame that people who have nothing to offer accept their boobs, or ass get so much attention while people who are using their talents to free themselves and others don't get a second look.
I am introducing a new Feature to my profile, that applauds people who I believe are contributing something to the World Wibe Web. Wether it's philanthropic, creative or political works, I will seach for you and feature you.
I believe that the time has come for the real people who enjoy what they do and offer something positive to the world to get aknowleged and applauded for their works.
Watch this space. You may be in it.

Paul Burston
www.myspace.com/paulburstonP aul Burston embodies the idea that one can be more than one thing - and excel at it too! This published and accomplished author, journalist, curator and Disc Jockey certainly has the midas touch when it comes to anything he's involved in. He has 7 books under his belt including his best-selling novel "Shameless" which was shortlised for a State of Britain Award.
His latest novel is called "Lovers & Losers" and this is what Time Out Magazine had to say about it:
'Like his earlier novels, Burston's latest is fast-moving, compellingly plotted and very funny. But "Lovers & Losers" is also by turns exciting and convincingly moving' - Time Out.
Lovers & Losers at #2 in the top 5 selling books.
Earlier this year in June, Paul was listed by the Independent on Sunday Pink List as one of the most influential gay people in Britain for the second year running. Last year in September he recieved a Stonewall Award nomination for Best Writer.
The writer and playwright meet. What would Joe Orton do in a public restroom? What didn't he do?
Charlie's Q & A with Paul Burston
I asked Paul 5 questions and here are his answers. CM = Charlie Manner; PB = Paul Burston
CM: How do you feel your books contribute to people's lives positively?
PB: First and foremost, by keeping them entertained, maybe raising a smile or two. If they identify with the characters and are moved or made to think about things differently, that's an added bonus.
CM: If you could go back in time, what would you tell your 18 year old self?
PB: Stop dyeing your hair. It'll fall out!
CM: What do you know for sure?
PB: That The Human League were right all along. 'Love is all that matters'.
CM: Where do you think the world is going? Down the paths of destrsuction or down a Green Street with cars powered by vegetable oil?
PB: I try to be an optimist, so I hope the latter. But the realist in me sometimes thinks the former is more likely.
CM: What's the most meaningful line from a song to you?
PB: 'Words of nuance, words of skill and words of romance are a thrill, Words are stupid, words are fun, words can put you on the run'from Wordy Rappinghood by Tom Tom Club.I also like the line 'Eat your words but don't go hungry, words have always nearly hung me'. Don't ask me why.
Paul's fourth novel "The Gay Divorcee" will be published in May 2009.
