ABOUT STEPHEN ROWE ...

Stephen Rowe is originally from the Australian Outback mining town of Broken Hill, NSW, which is about 800 miles inland from Sydney where it's hotter than hell in summer and freezing cold in the winter.
He left school at a young age, completing a trade as a carpenter/builder. He also raced motocross for Suzuki and was fully sponsored by a local dealership. To keep in shape for motocross, Stephen did four years of boxing, and believe it or not, to improve his balance on the bike - he also studied ballet - a rarity for a boy from Broken Hill.
At the age of nineteen he left his home town and moved to Adelaide in South Australia, where he was offered a full scholarship for two years to study classical ballet. Stephen went on to have a successful career in ballet and performed with a number of international ballet companies such as Milwaukee Ballet, Cincinnati Ballet and the Houston Ballet Co.
Growing up in the country, Stephen was raised on a musical diet of Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard and Kris Kristofferson. As a young bloke, he also loved David Bowie and AC/DC. It was in Houston when his homesickness started to kick in that Stephen started writing his own songs.
After he retired from ballet, he turned to music, fronting the acclaimed punk outfit, Sexopronto, a band Rick Ruben was smitten by! While writing punk songs, Stephen was also writing country songs. After Sexopronto disbanded, following the alt country route seemed like a natural progression for the singer/songwriter.
Stephen got his break in country music when he was invited by Aussie country music superstar, Tania Kernaghan, to record a guest vocal on her smash hit, “Yee Ha!”. Since then there’s been no looking back!
His debut album, “Broken Hill”, was released in February 2007 and is a personal journey which engages the listener from start to finish. It not only reflects his traditional music influences but also tells his stories of his life, hometown, family and his country. Co-produced by successful alt country/roots artist, Anne McCue, "Broken Hill" spawned four singles including "Don't Kick My Dog", "Two Clock", "You're The Angel" and the CMC chart hit, "Broken Hill".
In mid 2007, Stephen released the song, “Let’s Fall In Love Again”, and asked Tania Kernaghan if she’d like to sing it as a duet with him. She loved the song so much she agreed immediately. The song was the 8th Most Added Song to Radio the week following it's released. It entered the Australian country airplay charts at 3, peaked at 2 and remained in the Top 10 for over 6 months!
Stephen is currently putting the finishing touches to his sophomore album, "Restless Soul". It features a duet with rising talent Jeanne Jolly and an appearance by the legendary Willie Chambers of the Chambers Brothers ("People Get Ready" & "Time Has Come Today" fame).
A fan of the visual element of music videos to accompany his singles, Stephen has also just shot the clip for the chosen first single, "Country Kids in The City". It features a cameo appearance by Australian Calvin Klein underwear model and co-star of the hit TV series, "The Beast" (with Patrick Swayze), Travis Fimmel. His previous videos have also included cameo appearances by Stuart Finlay McLennan, tAtu guitarist, Troy MacCubbin and roots artist, Anne McCue.
Stephen Rowe's new album, "Restless Soul", is slated for release late 2009.
