About Me

From an early age music as pretty much dominated my life. I remember Sunday mornings as a kid being woken by Abba and the sound of the hoover!. Believe it or not my main inspiration to play the guitar came from my dads love of Country and Western music, not you're run of the mill country, rare stuff! Then there was my sisters Motown records blasting out from her bedroom, I used to make out I didn't like her records then scurry back to my room to learn the guitar parts to the likes of My Guy. Then my uncle came to live with us, he was a real Northern Soul man, out on Friday back on Sunday night with his big shirt collars and tank tops, although he did leave me his rather tasty 7" record collection!. In my mid teens I decided to form a band, best mates only! we took things very serious, no covers all our own songs. It was at this point I realised my true love for music, for me it was not just about playing guitar but also arranging songs. In 1991 I was then asked to join a band called 35 Summers who had an indie deal with Planet records, the bands profile went through the roof after we made the decision to have Bill Shankly on our bands T shirts (not my choice I might add) with the high sales in T shirts and sell out gigs it wasn't long before the majors started sniffing, I couldn't believe it! Telling my boss I was leaving work because I had a record deal with RCA was one of the best things I have ever had to do. After many many hours in the studio recording our first album 'Sketch' we then toured with most of the main name bands at the time EMF being one of them, Unbelievable! it wasn't long before we had to move along for the boy band onslaught. After the obvious split in 1992 I was lucky to have been ask to join Fishmonkeyman who where signed to Warner Brothers, the singer in the band had his own studio in his house and it was at this point I started to get more of an understanding of the engineering and production side of music, we spent many long hours recording mixing etc, it was quite rare for someone to have real studio facilities at home then… We recorded our first and last album in a number studios working with great producers and engineers, Pat Collier, Dave Dix, Mark Tolly and what a great experience that was. After the split of Fishmonkeyman I went on to produce my own music venturing into Disco, House, soul etc. I have had the pleasure to have worked with some great singers and producers over these last few years, Keith Thompson being one of them, I have recently had a couple tracks released through his US label Waking Monster. I have also been fortunate to have been the only UK producer to have had one of my tracks featured on an album called Worlds Collide which was a collaboration of producers from all over the world, from Africa to Halewood!! I'm now currently producing/managing a very talented singer songwriter called Gary Edward Jones, if anyone deserves a break in the business... I can't believe my wife Tracy and my two beautiful girls Georgia and Alex still put up with me after all these years! I must be doing something right!!
