K-Ray emerges on the scene with a unique sound that todays music industry is crying out for. It is a sound that has a combination of hip-hop, R&B, soul, and even gospel music. He simply calls it "Life Music". K-Rays roots began in the Midwest in the city of Dayton, OH. He gained his early admiration for music from his father who was a local Radio DJ in the Dayton community. "As a little boy, I can remember my father rubbing elbows with the likes of Roger Troutman & Zapp, Earth Wind & Fire, and even Michael Jackson," says K-Ray. A few years later his father walked away from the R&B scene, and became very popular as a gospel DJ, which ended up having a heavy influence on K-Rays life. "I grew up listening to Commissioned, The Winans, Be Be & Ce Ce, John P. Kee, and numerous other gospel artists," he explains. "Gospel music had a huge affect on my life and it helped shaped the style of music that I write today." K-Ray was and still is a huge admirer of hip-hop, and R&B. This is what gives me the drive to write the type of music that I sing today," he adds. What type of music, you ask? Life Music. K-Ray explains that he wants to sing and write music that people can relate too regardless of age, ethnicity, and even religion. "Hopefully, kids won't have to sneak to listen to my music" he says laughingly, "but most of all I would like for my music to be an influence in helping people, both young and old, make the right choices in everyday life.
K-Ray, now residing in Atlanta, Ga., does a superb job of conveying this concept of Life Music through his upcoming freshman album Music Street. This album will combine the hip hop, soul, mid-western, head banging sounds of the CD-titled track "Music Street", with the R&B grooves of "Share My World". He slows it down a little bit with another romantic flavored R&B joint called "My Heart". He also throws in a another smooth, slow, heart-felt ballad simply called "You", along with several other songs which will not only have music lovers grooving all day long, but will also help influence someones life to change for the better. "Music that I listened to while growing up, and still do listen to now, helped to shape my thoughts, morals, beliefs, and even habits, and ultimately I found a relationship with God through music," explains K-Ray. "At the end of the day, if my music doesnt influence someone in that same way, then all of this is being done in vain." Surely this young mans new innovative concept of Life Music will set the music industry on fire!
