About Me

BIO:
From sticks to strings, Eric Forsyth was destined to leave the drum throne in the back of the band for the front stage lime light the moment he picked up the guitar at the age of 17.
Born of a jazzer father and very accomplished organist mother, "Er-Bear" Forsyth was homegrown in California in the shadow of his late great grandmother's baby grand Steinway. With a childhood filled with piano lessons and choir performances, Forsyth didn't unleash his inner rock star until he picked out his first real drum kit, a Tama Rockstar, on his 12th birthday.
Forsyth drummed his way through several years of jazz competitions, music festivals, college touring alt. rock bands, rodeos and house parties until he tired of playing only other's music. "I wanted to be able to play my own music I felt inside me, and drums wouldn't do that for me. That's when I started writing" said Forsyth.
In his freshman year of college, A friend taught Forsyth the first four chords on an old guitar that launched him on a new road of expression. "I played those first few chords until my fingers bled." he said. And he hasn't stopped since. In the last few years, this self taught guitarist and songwriter has made a name for himself in several different locations across the country. From Philadelphia to Detroit, Idaho, Miami and now Boulder, Colorado, Forsyth has lived and performed in various venues and locales, with many talented artists - broadening his musical taste and expression while combining those to find a sound so uniquely his own. "I figure I'll never stop developing my sound, and I'm fine with that. Ceasing to evolve sounds awfully boring. I'd probably develop a twitch."
Amidst fast-paced changes that have been the only constant in his recent life, Eric's biggest influence is found in silence. "Life can get hectic and often there is very little silence. When I take time to create silence, I feel a need to fill it with something original. That seems to spawn and influence my writing."
"I don't think I have a goal beyond making my music sound as good and real as possible. And sharing that with as many people as possible in hopes that they connect with it. Other people's music has been a hugely positive part of my life, so I know what a good fit of tunes can do to your day/life."
trees and other shady things:
Written and recorded over the course of a year and a half, trees and other shady things is a hand picked collection of quintessential Eric Forsyth tunes. As debut solo releases go, this one is a golden keeper. From the Ben Harper-esque acoustic spiritual of "Easiness" to the John Mayer song styling of "Holding" and toe tapping reggae pop infused licks of "Bound to Be," trees and other shady things has Forsyth's heart and homemade love put into every note.

Take a listen and hear his story for yourself.

...with two of my music files posted on my profile. The volume fluctuates, and it sounds like a wierd intentional recording gimmick. It's not. It's news to me and I'm looking into it. In the meantime....
