The Rowdy Bovines started out as the remnants of Sonic Ted & the Radio Kings. When James Morrow and Mike Metzger met up in 1990, the Bovines were basically just whoever James could get together whenever he could grab a gig. This all soon changed!Morrow & Metzger were like-minded rock & roll kindred spirits. They wanted to play rockabilly but in a more modern way. Lots of rhythm sections came and went but the best of the bunch were Sean Chambers on bass and either Blair Powell or Jim Bleyer on drums. These incarnations KICKED MIGHTY ASS!From 1990-1995, the Bovines were a force to be reckoned with! No, they weren't the 1st rockabilly band in the area but they probably made the strongest impact. Billy Poore, author of ROCKABILLY: A 40 Year Journey referred to them as "regional legends".Legendary as their status was, record companies wanted nothing to do with them; even though the lads were packing bars & clubs from PA to NY to OH to WV to VA & DC 5 nights a week! All good things must come to an end. After 5 years, countless line up changes, break ups, fights and the standard "artistic differences", the Bovines went their separate ways. A few reunion shows happened from time to time and who knows, could again.James Morrow went on to form Ethel & the Octanes as well as promoting countless rockabilly shows and the infamous RUSTBELT ROCKABILLY WEEKENDERS.Mike Metzger adopted the nickname "Memphis" and formed the Legendary Tremblers. He went on to record for Ohio Moon, El Toro, Pixler Disk and Renegade Records before starting his own label. Having a knack for falling ass-backwards into a good thing, Metzger has gone on to be part of the RHOF house band from 2001-2003, toured the US, UK & Australia and has had his songs recorded by the likes of SUN Rockabilly Legend Hayden Thompson.Sean Chambers, Blair Powell and Jim Bleyer, along with Scotty Quay and Woody went on to form Highway 13. They've released an independent 45 and recorded 2 CDs for Get Hip Records.Jim Bleyer later went on to drum for The Cheats.
Sean is now a happily married family man living in Maine.THEY ALL CONTINUE TO ROCK!
