I am here for Friends

About Me

I work as a part-time yoga teacher (emphasis on part - maybe a class or two a week) and a graduate research assistant while attending CSU full time. I have a lot of interests - especially mindfulness (including meditation), health & wellness, fitness (especially yoga), and hanging out with my beautiful Scottie friend (we lost his older brother April 26 at 13 years of age). I love learning, and am usually reading several books at a time (some for school, and some just for fun).

This summer has been all about landscaping... moving a few tons of rocks from the back to the front, digging holes, assembling a gate, planting countless drought-tolerant beauties, and such. What fun to be unemployed! :) I've also just started taking Tai Chi... I have a feeling it'll be wonderful to learn it well enough to share it with older, sedentary people, since it's a great form of low-impact exercise that increases safety and wellness and is approachable by every body. One woman I spoke with in class mentioned that she had tried yoga in the past, and just felt more drawn to Tai Chi, so I figure both are great forms to know well enough to share. :)

You are The Star

Hope, expectation, Bright promises.

The Star is one of the great cards of faith, dreams realised

The Star is a card that looks to the future. It does not predict any immediate or powerful change, but it does predict hope and healing. This card suggests clarity of vision, spiritual insight. And, most importantly, that unexpected help will be coming, with water to quench your thirst, with a guiding light to the future. They might say you're a dreamer, but you're not the only one.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

I'd love to catch up with any old friends I've somehow lost touch with along the way. Also, I'd love to meet fun, interesting people - whether locals or on the other side of the world. Since I'm new to Fort Collins, finding out more about neat places or people in town would definitely be cool! Cafe chats, yoga classes, hikes, etc.

A poem a friend shared that I found sublimely beautiful:

What hurts you, blesses you.
Darkness is your candle.
Your boundaries are your quest.

I can explain this, but it would break
the glass cover on your heart,
and there's no fixing that.

Maybe the coolest movie minute ever:

Transpersonal Psychology and The Journey

January 10 update:  Spirittat pointed out that I kind of flew over Maslow's meaning of "wellness" in the blog below, so I added a lot more about that in the comments, just in case anyone else was c...

A season of transition

We've had an absolutely beautiful autumn over the last month.  The bright green leaves have gradually shifted through golds, oranges, and browns, and are just starting to drift to the ground in b...

I have a feeling you guys might have some excellent suggestions for this one! :)

I went to an assisted living center for low-income older adults today.  There are some crafts, nice walks (including a duck pond), and some other activities.  However, it turns out there is ...

Lifes Transitions

Stepping out of yoga class tonight, I was met with shiny streets, the quiet "swoosh" of tires on wet pavement, the wonderfully fresh smell of fallen rain, and the soothingly moist feel of a humid nigh...
