About Me

Background
Kev Gee Has been into the 'Rave' scene since its early days. Having first been exposed to the music in 1991. before that he was a young 12 year old B-Boy into Hip Hop from the likes of KRS1, Public Enemy, NWA , Eric B & Rakim, SIlver Bullet, Hijack & many more. Kev was inspired by Dj's like Mikey Finn, Grooverider,Hype, Carl Cox, Slipmatt,The Ratpack, Top Buzz, Stu Allen & local Heroes such as Easy D & Mc Rush, Impact & Volterol, Jack Master Jay, Asterix & Space & many more. He was also a Avid fan of the Pirate Radio Stations who shaped & have produced most of the rave scenes legends who are still going strong today (either in the Hardcore Or Drum & Bass scene)
In 1994 when the scene split into 2 distinct styles(Happy Hardcore & Jungle(later to be known Drum n Bass)) Kev decided to follow the Jungle route. while still hearing the odd Happy Hardcore tape.
In 1995 Kev heard a tape from now Legendary 'Hardcore' night 'Uprising'(Paul-O's B-Day party) ...he heard this new 'Bouncy' sound being played by the likes of Stu Allen & thought it resembled Gabber played by the likes of past hero Impact, but with a happyer sound! He was very impressed and got straight back into the Hardcore scene once more! Kev was also inspired by events such as:- Helterskelter, Dreamscape, Steam, Kinetic & many more.
In 1997 kev decided to start his Record Collection and because there was no Hardcore being sold in Sheffield in early '97 he started to build a nice Drum & Bass Collection. Playing early releases on labels like :- Ganja Records, Renegade Hardware, Trouble On Vinyl, Penny Black & many more. Towards the middle/end of 97 Reflex Records opened & Kev becamme one of its first customers & was able to buy many of the classic Happy hardcore records of the era, such as:- Bang - Cloudy Daze, Shooting Star, Force & Styles - Heart Of Gold etc as well as Now classic Gabber/Hardcore Techno records on the Deathchant & Area 51 labels Respectivley. Kev also attended his first 'Uprising' event on September 12th 1997. He still has the flyer to this day! Kev has attended Uprising ever since(with a break between 2001-2002)
In 1999 Kev got a Decent enough job to be able to afford some good equipment & bought some Citronic PD1' Decks. This enabled Kev to be able to be able to progress as a Dj and get better although it was still just for his own buzz! He still played Happy Hardcore & the then 'New' Freeform Sound played & produced by the likes of Sharkey & Kev Energy. Sadly around this time he lost touch with the Drum & Bass scene. He sold all his DnB records & reinvested the cash in more Freeform.
In 2001 Kev tried to settle down with his then girlfriend & decided to take a break from the scene. Although through all this time he thought something was missing from his life.
In 2003 Kev decided to attend Uprising one last time to see if he had the 'Buzz' back. The old feelings of being part of something more & belonging came back. He decided to attend Uprising full time once more!
In 2004 Kev Decided to start Djing again. Although this time he would have a serious crack at it & see if he could get anywere. Kev did get somewere & played in the Uprising Dj competition with his first booking in October 2004. After this more bookings followed. But Kev wasnt entirely comfortable with the style of music he played as he was still getting to grips with all the new labels that had appeared since he last Djed in 2000. Kev was always into the 'Harder' sounds & began to play more & more Gabber & less UK Hardcore/Freeform. Kev decided to switch to mainly playing Gabber/Hardcore Techno in 2005 as he felt this style had more 'Drive' & 'Energy' & room for 'Experimentation' and felt right to him personally.
2005 & more bookings followed in & around Yorkshire. 2005 was a pivitol year in Kevs DJing as he was asked to be the 'Gabber' resident for Internet Radio Station Hardcore United's new concept - Northern Gathering. Kev played the first event and has played many more ever since! Also in 2005 Kev's style of Gabber kept evolving as he was drawn towards harder & more experimental sub-genres. Kev had almost entirley given up on UK Hardcore by this point & if asked to play Hardcore he played mainly 'Old Skool' style sets.
In 2006 Kev continued his destruction of people's ear drums with blistering demos (such as - My Brain-Dark Side) further enhancing his reputation for playing experimental & future sounding Gabber & Hardcore Techno. In the summer of 2006 Kev also decided he would 'return' to his roots & play Future & Genre Pushing Drum & Bass. This style is alot harder than the usual Jump Up fare being played by many a DnB Jock. But the crucial thing is it is Heavily Dancefloor oriantated. On the occasions Kev has been booked to play his style he has smashed the dancefloor to pieces with a vicious sonic assault that is relentless!
And so into 2007...........Who knows what the future holds......The one thing that is certain is that Kev Gee will continue to defy the continued push for mainstream sounds & play what he thinks is 'Hardcore'.. Also he will continue to push his awesome Drum & Bass sound!
The Dj:- Kev has never followed musical fashions. He plays what he believes in, Good or Bad. Thats his style. Forever forward thinking. construction of sets that grow in intensity & Tempo/Power & Hardness is what he's about. As long as the ravers go home happy thats his main aim. For his Drum & bass he uses the same ethos, using his set building techniques learned in the Hardcore Scene & importing them into the Drum & Bass World. Ones things for sure. After hearing one of His Drum & Bass sets live you'll know youve been in a Rave!
