I am possessed by the spirit of a rapper named Russell Dank, but not in a villainous way like the kid in "the shining" or "exorcist". Russell is the combination of 4 things - (1.) my love of hip-hop/rap music (2.) the need to get things off of my chest (3.) my love of writing poetry, and (4.) I don't like art that is spelled out in front of you. Dank's gritty, dirty, rusty, funky, beautiful sound is perfect for my songs. If it wasn't for Russell Dank, I might have self-destructed years ago.

---------------------------------------------------- Russ started rhyming in 1993 in Dravosburg, McKeesport, it's all good. He was featured on 3 tracks that ended up on the 'Chicks' Mon album "60 minutes of pleasure." Russell then recorded afew more tracks that eventually ended up on "str8 from the nest." Over the next few years AsmoothE and Russ had beats but they were out to find some new talent to rhyme with. In late 1995 MCI, former band mate of "suburban 'sounds like' shoes" with AsmoothE, introduced AsmoothE to a young rapper from Upper 10th Ward in McKeesport, that kid MarQ. MarQ was a member of the Upper 10th rap group 'TKO', after the group went it's separate ways MarQ was still looking to rhyme. Russ D hooked up with that kid MarQ and MCI in '96 and recorded "str8 from the nest" the very first Aviary album, the Aviary was born. In 1999 MarQ joined up with Uncle Sam and Juan Blanco down in South Carolina, so without MarQ Russ released his first solo album "D-Funked" in 2000. All of the early recording were done on a karaoke machine, mostly in G-Dog's basement. Finally in 2001 the Aviary hit the digital age, first with MarQ's first solo project "the Southern Trespass" then in 2003 Russell released "a Decade of Dank" a 22 track rustfest celebrating Russell's 10 years of rhyming. This was the first Aviary album to be recorded at ThirdNubby Studios in McKeesport, the 'Laser' party will never be forgotten. In 2004 the Aviary re-formed to release the long awaited "Theatre Bar" featuring the coolest album cover ever. In 2005 Russell released his own version of a concept album "the Voice" an 8 track piece of sound from within. The Aviary is not done yet, they may be getting older but they are all still ready to push them buttons.
