About Me

This is probably going to be a lot different from most artist pages you run across here on My Space. I don't have a cd I'm promoting. I'm not a performer, per se. The songs here were written and performed by me, back in 1995.
My father, who was a truck driver at the time, was tragically killed in some kind of freak accident while he was away on the road. So was the person who was riding along with him, a man who also had a wife and kids.
The company he worked for was found neglegent and we received a settlement. With some of my share I bought something I had always wanted, a work station keyboard I could use to write music. These songs are a portion of what came out of that keyboard; the keyboard my daddy bought me.
I actually fought myself long and hard before posting these songs. As I sat and listened to the old cd of the recordings I'd done over 10 years ago, I was mortified by some of what I was hearing. This singing was pretty bad by my standards today. After all, I'm a voice instructor now! What if potential clients heard this stuff? :O) Back then though, I was raw and unpolished. And, I quickly found out, singing lead/solo vocals took a whole lot more vocal and breath control than singing tenor in the choir.
But I was driven by something deeper at the time. Songs were pouring out of me. These are only 4 of about 10 or more I wrote during that time. I went into a small studio that had a package deal going....10 hours of time, mixing, mastering and 10 cd's (lol). It was a small mom and pop operation and the engineer had just finished school. I went in in one night, and did them all. So we're talking one take on most of this stuff guys. I don't even think the engineer heard the mistakes he was so excited.
On their home computer they printed a plain white label for my cd jacket, and cd labels that were nothing more than stickers they put on the cd's, really. I was proud, though. I got my cd's, passed them out to friends and family and that was that. I never really did anything else with the songs until now. They really didn't fit anything that was popular then (Neo Soul didn't exist 10 years ago, lol).
But 10 years later I listened again...and the more I listened the more the songs took me back to that time. Through all the mistakes, bad notes, cracks and everything else that was making me crenge as I listened to this old forgotten project, I was endeared to them still. Each one was like frozen moments in time that perfectly preserved what I was going through at the time. I remember vividly the things I was thinking and the stories that inspired each song. Those stories and memories are what I hope to share with you here.
This site takes you through a musical story book covering the few years following dad's death, as told by these songs and the blogs that correspond with them. Please read the corresponding blog for each song either before or after listening to the song. I hope something here blesses you in some way. That is the only reason for it's existence.
