Jerry Jack was born August 20th 1962 on the Island of Aruba, to Jacinth and Reynold Jack. The third of four siblings Jerry was the only one stung by the Photography bug. Jerryâ€,,s first introduction to photography came from his father Reynold Jack, who moved his family to Trinidad where he introduced the art of color separation to the local newspapers he worked for. He also set up a home-based photo studio where he took portraits for the community along with personal photos capturing the Islandâ€,,s beauty and culture. Jerry traveled with his father on many photo shoots and watched him develop these images in the darkroom and here is where his love of photography began. Jerry and his family left Trinidad and came to New York in 1973. His interest in photography and media arts continued to grow as he participated in photo projects in JHS. Knowing that this was more than a passing interest, Jerry went to Edward R. Murrow High School where he majored in Photography. Recognizing he natural abilities for the art he decided to pursue a career in photography.His first formal training was at Germain School of Photography, the Center for Media Arts. In 1985 Jerry met and worked with top photographer, Anthony Barboza, who became his mentor and friend. Throughout his career Jerry has been blessed to work with and learn from some of the top Photographer of their time. Included in this group are John Pinderhughes, Hugh Bell, Howard Bingham, David Stetson, David Langley, Francis Ing and Chris Sanders. Jerryâ€,,s portfolio includes clients such as Hot 97, Black Enterprise, New York Times, The Anguilla Tourist Board, Essence Magazine and Mirimax Films to name a few. Jerry is also the Photo editor of Valentine Magazine, created by Michael Valentine. His work with the NYC Housing Authority, Community Centers teaching photography to the youth in the community has allowed him to pass on his passion of photography to a new generation keeping the art alive.
