Klazziq (Born Mack Jefferson III) has had a life filled triumphant moments and tragic set backs, born in raised in New Orleans’s 17th ward/Gerttown section Klazziq grew up around a variety of music in his home except for one genre.†Yeah man mom’s wasn’t having any type of hip hop in the house; she couldn’t stand all the foul languageâ€. Never one to give up, klazziq would often get his daily dosage of hip hop at his older cousin house it’s there were he would check out the latest songs from N.W.A, Too Short, LL Cool J ECT.
Due to the nationwide spread of crack in the late 80’s Klazziq parents decided to head west to Long beach California. “Moving to Cali was a major culture shock for me but on the flipside it was a total blessing.†Klazziq was soon on his way emerging himself into the Cali scene. “When I heard the chronic album I knew immediately this is what I wanted to doâ€.
Being that basketball was klazziq’s first love he put music very much to the side.†Like most youngster’s coming up I had dreams of playing in the NBA, but I realized early that wasn’t going to pan out, so on the low I’d grab a pad n a pen and I’ve been hooked ever sinceâ€. Klazziq would often get in trouble during school be chose to focus on writing lyrics instead of getting an education.
Although Klazziq it wasn’t until his senior year of high school that Klazziq began taking his craft seriously he would hit up freestyle ciphers at local parties but he never dreamed of trying to make it happen on a major scale. After his senior year of high school Klazziq and long time friend Michael “Mike James†Brown created Dank Squad, which has become DS Recordings as of 2003.
In 1999 Klazziq was introduced to Hooch & Champ through a mutual friend and became the third member in The Street Sweepas, which lead to their debut Self-titled album on Ultima Records in 2000. Due to creative differences Klazziq parted ways from the Street Sweepas in 2001.
In 2002 Klazziq linked up with BH CEO of IK Music Group in which he met Dahliam formerly of OTP. During a late night studio session Klazziq & Dahliam joined forces to create the album know as BOFA (breathoffreshair). With the success of BOFA they begin performing their hit song “Sit Blow†at the House of blues Downtown Disney and other Orange/ Los Angeles county hot spots.
In 2003 thru 2004 Klazziq joined BH on the “Take over Tour†performing at various ventures including the House of blues Las Vegas. Klazziq soon went on a mix tape terror releasing 8 mix tapes (the meaning vol 1. ds radio vol 2. man vs. self vol 1. redemption vol 3. bouttymeuheardthiz vol 4. bofa vol 1 & vol 2. mythoughtsmyworld vol5.).
Growing tired of playing the background, while receiving no loyalty in return. Klazziq decided to take matters into his own hands.†Instead of waiting onna handout I decided to hit the independent route full steam ahead, besides it was too many chiefs and not enough Indians feel me?†with a new lease on music Klazziq hooked up with Dahliam to work on his Debut LP “Up close and Personalâ€.
“This particular project truly represents who I am as an artist and as a man.†Klazziq hopes to show and prove that the West Coast never left; “We simply elevated our minds and our way of thinking†Up close and personal is scheduled for a late summer release.
