When the right people come together, wonderful things can happen...
The Garfield Landry Band (GLB) is such an example. Comprised of a highly talented bunch of musicians based in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, their music is a fusion of Soul, Smooth and Contemporary Jazz, rooted in a rich tradition of R&B. Each musician in GLB brings a diverse range of musical expertise and years of performance experience, playing with international and national artists alike.
"This is an exciting time because the band is so powerful and has been so successful in a very short period of time", says Garfield, the band leader and saxophonist. "I've played sax, flute, and flugal horn since childhood. After attending college at Texas Southern University on a band scholarship, I gradually stopped playing and fell out of the game. After a sixteen year hiatus, I bought myself a soprano sax for my B-day -- since for years I've always wondered what it would be like to play again. Never would I have imagined I would be playing with such great folks. It's a long way from starting out with my cousins in the local favorite jazz band, Daddy's Chair. Inspired by the Music of Soul Live and Bobby Sparks, I decided it was time to come out of the shadows. GLB is a result of that inspiration."
The right people is the crucial component of GLB's success, including their extended family -- the audience. "If you folks promise to support us, we promise to strive for excellence and will work hard to create music to live by. It's a wonderful thing -- lifting a spirit."
