About Me

Mark Anthony Chubb was born on October 12, 1972 in Rome, Georgia. From a very early age, he demonstrated an interest in music, playing drums on the leather furniture in the house and constantly asking for piano lessons. When he began piano lessons, his family didn't own a piano, so his early piano pieces were learned on a piece of cardboard with piano keys drawn on it.He studied music composition at Morehouse College in Atlanta, the only school exclusively for African American men in the US, whose alumni include men such as Spike Lee, Samuel L. Jackson and the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. While at Morehouse, he won a prestigious Charles Merrill scholarship, which enabled him to study music in Vienna Austria. He graduated Cum Laude with his Bachelor of Arts degree in Music composition in 1996. Graduate work followed at the University of Iowa, where he was a Graduate Opportunity Fellow and received the Pelzer Prize for Music Composition. He has produced music for Iowa Public Television, Spike TV, the A&E Channel, and Fit TV. His music has also appeared in Computer Music magazine, and has been performed at the University of Iowa, Western Washington University, the Midwest Composers Symposium and SEAMUS. He has placed in several remix contests sponsored by Acidplanet.com and was the winner of the Lenny Kravitz Remix Contest and the Blue In Green New Kind Of Blue Remix Contest. He provided the score to the short film In The Garden Growing, which took top honors at Projections Film Festival in Bellingham, Washington.
