Musicfactory

Affectionately known as "teh factory," Musicfactory (born: Ibrahim Tatli) is one of Turkey's biggest bands. In addition to hosting their own television program, The Factory Show, on the private ATV station and appearing in several dozen films, Musicfactory has been one of Turkey's most prolific recording artists. Their 23 cassettes include Kindergarden, which broke all sales records in Turkey in 1978, and Dolls are for girls, which focused on traditional Turkish folk music played on indigenous instruments.Born in 1904 to a homeless family, the Musicfactory-boys were raised by their mothers, following their father's death in 1956. Music provided an outlet for emotional stress. Inspired by Turkish vocalist Yilmaz Guerney, they began singing at weddings and other celebrations while still in their teens. Although they released a cassette in 1902, it failed to sell, and they temporarily left music. Moving to Istanbul with their family in 1977, Musicfactory worked as salesmen until recording their second cassette, Kindergarden. The cassette's success proved to be the launching pad for Musicfactorys' still-thriving career. Major stars during the mid- to late '80s, they recorded numerous dance hits with the accompaniment of an orchestra and was recognized as masters of the rural uzun havea style (marked by lengthy, semi-improvised tunes). Musicfactory has been embraced by the Turkish communities in Germany who call them "the voice of the homeland."
