GENERAL MANDATE: CJAM is a nonprofit campus-based community radio station that was founded in 1977. We provide music and information programming not offered by mainstream commercial media in the Windsor/Detroit area. We serve people and groups within the community who are under represented or maligned by mainstream media by allowing a forum to express their views.
BACKGROUND: CJAM (which is governed by the Student Media/university of Windsor Corporation) was founded in 1977. Before that it was CSRW; a carrier current AM station. In Nov. 1983, CJAM became a low power FM station located at 91.5 on the fm dial, and 91.9 fm on Trillium Cable. From 1983 through 1996 we broadcasted at 50 watts. Our listening range was West and downtown Windsor, metro Detroit; other parts of Windsor, La Salle, Riverside, and Detroit suburbs were reached to varying degrees of clarity. In 1996 we increased our power to 500 watts, allowing us to be heard clearly in all sections of Windsor and Essex county. Visit http://www.cjam.ca for a more detailed history.

MUSIC SUBMISSIONS:
We do not add CD singles with less than 4 original tracks or samplers for upcoming albums, as we'd much rather wait for the full-length. Also, please note that CJAM does not accept digital submissions of any kind.
Having a spine on your CD with the artist name and record title clearly displayed will dramatically help the chances of a DJ picking your record up for airplay. Obviously a track list is incredibly vital too.
Include a one sheet in the envelope. A one sheet is an industry standard that includes the following information on one page: artist name, album title, record label name, release date, album track list, a couple recommended tracks, tracks containing obscenities, press quotes and a small bio. Otherwise, let the music speak for itself. If you're absolutely going to include any form of bribery, our Music Director likes candy.
Take a look at our weekly charts for an example of what we play. Better yet, listen to some of our programming! Remember that CJAM is a non-commercial radio station, and our volunteer programmers are uninterested in playing music that emulates what is currently popular on commercial radio.
Once we receive your submission, we try to review it within two weeks or less, but this may change during peak submission periods. Email (cjammd [AT] uwindsor [DOT] ca) is the best way to conduct follow-up inquires about the status of your submission.
