Should all Americans be forced to travel to other lands, see and feel other cultures, and eat somewhere besides McDoodoos? YES! How can you say you’ve truly lived until you drink wine in Tuscany, cliff dive in Santorini, surf New Zealand, watch soccer in Heerenveen (Friesland, Netherlands), listen to singing nuns in Sacre Couer or play cricket with young Buddhist monks in Sri Lanka? LA is such a land of contrasts, no? I can shop at Barney’s and Goodwill, give a dollar to a homeless man and eat at Capo in Santa Monica, run for human rights for 3 months from Greece to Germany (that’s right, RUN!) and laugh at the Family Guy when they poke fun at stereotypes. I search for truth, but never forget to laugh at myself (and others!). Never trust someone who can’t talk to children. Or dogs. Make them all laugh. If all else fails, teach them the “pull my finger” game. But at the end of the day, it’s good friends and family that make it all worth it. I have a soft spot in my heart for my divorced female friends who love me unconditionally when I fix their computer problems – even without “privileges”… ? Give me a dinner party with great food and wine over a bar any day. And after all these years, my sister still puts banana peels in my pillowcase when she comes to visit, just to remind me never to get too serious. Life is a romantic comedy. Bet I can make you laugh until milk squirts out your nose…
