About Datapunk:
The stylistic mix of Electro music with all other genres of the electronic scene are simply making this music more interesting than it has ever been before because of and despite the economically difficult conditions within the music industry at this time. For some, there may be an end in sight, but I sense a proper atmosphere of departure, not a displacement of old structures but more of a consequent construction of the next level. (Anthony Rother, 2006)
At the beginning of 2004, Anthony Rother started an ongoing music revolution with his label Datapunk, which is heavily based on the values of freedom and futurism.
Datapunk should not be associated with the punk definition No Future from the late 1970s but rather is to be seen as a separate creation of a new music orientation.
Datapunk appreciates the further development of the Electro beat as well as artistic freedom. Straightforward in its elements, fused with the techno sound and, with the synthesis and instruments used, creating a pure intensive club sound.
Melodious, danceable, straight - Datapunk exports the Electro feeling into established clubs throughout the world.
Nevertheless, the label manages to maintain the certain freedom not to limit its spectrum and, as well as powerful sounds such as German Body Machine, it also delivers trance-inspired pieces from Gregor Tresher's album NEON as well as Electro pop from Berlin's unknown artists.
The further development from Anthony Rother's successful album Popkiller (2004) to the new disc Super Space Model (2006).was also of great consequence. Anyone who has only listened to the tiniest bit of the latest Baby Rothers will notice that the Datapunk sound has benefited greatly from personal and musical experiences throughout the course of this year and will see that the label is enjoying a radiant status in modern Electro music.
The releases from the Datapunk house are in no way mass commodities. The tracks radiate with character and are inspired by the visions of well known artists such as Sven Väth, Johannes Heil, or DJ Hell, and emphasize the concept of Datapunk. This is the ongoing development of the Electro sound.
Retro is dead, were living Electro.
