" '2/3 Skeleton' demonstrates Carbone's ability to abandon the self absorbent path of the typical singer/songwriter and, like Leonard Cohen or Bill Callahan, take his listeners to another place altogether allowing them to interpret the music in a way that is personally relevant to each individual"
- Bart Ford, Under the Mooch Records [Tulsa, OK]
"Brooklyn singer-songwriter crafts oddball tunes that veer off to parts unknown when you least expect them to"
- Jim Macnie, The Phoenix [Providence, RI]
Tavo Carbone [voice, guitar, piano] is a song writer from Brooklyn, NY. The ensemble that brings those songs to life is JJ Beck [drums, glockenspiel, keys], Matt Scott[bass, voice, guitar], Michael Chinworth[keys, voice, trumpet], Heather Sommerlad[violin, voice] and Adele Mori [cello, voice].
In 2007, Carbone released 2/3 Skeleton- fourteen songs combining the textures of pump organ, glockenspiel, ukulele, percussion and other instruments. Forward was released early 2008, documenting a Vermont performance which featured an orchestra of seventeen. Since '07, Carbone has toured frequently- alongside artists such as The Extraordinaires, Dinosaur BBQ, Smallpox + the New Vaccine, S. Rich & the K.N.O., Wighead and others.
In native Brooklyn, Carbone and band mates Beck, Scott, Chinworth, Sommerlad and Mori recently had a July residency at Pete's Candy Store and are currently preparing new studio album Horse's Mouth. The album aims to capture their live sound of late; a mixture of abrasive electric and orchestral timbres. The album will feature such songs as "Tumbleweeding" and "As I Climb in the Horse's Mouth", including others previewed on Forward and recent live shows. Horses Mouth will be premiered live at Union Pool top to bottom on August 19th- and officially released in October.
