The Taste of BitterWine is on My Lips

About Me

The actual concept of "BitterWine" came about in the late part of fall 2004 when LORD TOPH invited Damen Samuel to visit him at his home in upstate NY. The two had been previously introduced by a mutual friend who respected them both as talented artists. Not long after their introduction to one another, the two talented introverts realized that they did actually have alot more in common besides being musicians. They spent their first visit talking about their interests, and their goals as artists. They immediately hit it off, and decided to find a way to collaborate... to merge artistic energies, if you will. Well, to no surprise to either of them, came a whole new collection of music. They had begun to effortlessly figure out a way to interweave their passion for life, love, and of course beautiful women into what they each considered their "musical diaries." Yet, they weren't quite sure how to look at their new musical union... the beginning of a band?... a group,... duet? They weren't really sure. Then, LORD TOPH suggested they look at it as simply, "a project." This way, neither had to look at it as a venture they were not willing to devote alot of time to. Keeping this perspective made it easy for them to develop a good friendship, and at the same time, good music. Up until this point, LORD TOPH and Damen Samuel had not yet come up with a name to call themselves. But then one winter night, late in the a.m. hours, the two had just finished up on a new song they both were excited about. Then, it hit! Or should I say, spilled? Engrossed in an intense conversation, and hyper from both tea and sweets, Damen began to describe a taste of what has long since been forgotten. Whatever it was he was describing became insignificant at this point. But the point is, whatever he was describing was exactly what inspired their name, "BitterWine." I suppose this is where one usually says, "and the rest is history." Yet for BitterWine, the story has just begun. "An ending can't be complete with out a true beginning," LORD TOPH adds. I have to say I agree with him. And without a doubt, I am very much in favor of BitterWine's music. All in favor, say "AYE"! thei

Band Members: "BitterWine" is NY artist, LORD TOPH & international artist, Damen Samuel. We'll invite fellow musicians to sit in with us from time to time... whether it be stage or studio. Let us know who you are!
Influences: We can honestly say that our music has been mostly influenced by our days in this thing called "life." There are far too many great artists that have influenced each of us over the years. We can honestly say that our biggest influence has been to one another as fellow songwriters, and most of all as good friends. We are alot like brothers! We work together, get mad together, and even entertain each other with wacky scenarios, or stories when we get too stressed out wondering "what do we do next?" Most of the time, we honestly don't know. We're both just glad that we've had the chance to create great music together.
Sounds Like: Our music is actually a bit of many different sounds. So actually, what we "sound like" is hard to say. We like to think of the songs we create as excerpts from our musical diary. Much of the music we've created for BitterWine, has a vintage.... maybe even a nostalgic appeal. If we were to say it sounded like anything in particular,... perhaps it would sound to us like a place we've been.... or who knows... it might sound like someplace we're going.
