About Me

DARREN D'RITO:I feel like I've been a D'Rito Brother most of my life! In fact, I have been a D'Rito brother most of my adult life. I started the band with Daryl Klusendorf in 1988 and was fortunate enough to have persuaded Danny Newby to join shortly after. Tom Nelson joined next and for the following 6 years the band enjoyed some of our most memorable experiences.I wasn't always a D'Rito, in fact during the first couple of D'Rito years, Danny and I played with Robin and Tony Crowe and before that, I was in a group called DRESSED TO KILL with my old friend Danny Light. WILD CHILD GIBSON used to love catching our last set at " Statesboro Blues" on any given Saturday night. Our drummer, Tom Jerigan was a Keith Moon fan and I was into the Doors, so our last song used to be me doing a Jim Morrison thing, rolling around on the floor while Danny laid his guitar next to his amp as Tom prepared to trash his drums. Great fun!!!For many years, I was a part of our family band, THE PEACOCK FAMILY. On drums or guitar, it was some of my most rewarding musical experiences due to the great variety of music we played as well as the many venues we performed.During the late 70's and early 80's, there were many rock clubs and music promoters in the area. It wasn't uncommon to play a weekend in Peoria, travel to Burlington, Iowa the next weekend only to do a week in Minnesota the following week. I got to live the life that you read about in rock magazines! Sure, on a smaller scale, but back then local music fans loved their live music! You were treated like someone special when you came to their town and they liked you. It was a young man's dream. But it was hard work too.It was during this period that I played and traveled with MAIDEN CANE. We won the basement tapes along with DAVE CHASTAIN and performed on the WWCT BASEMENT TAPES SHOW in 1980. The concert at the SECOND CHANCE is probably still talked about by those who were there. We recorded a 45 at Private Studios in Champaign Il and it was the song "Seperate Ways" that won the contest.I've always been a big fan of the Beatles, as well as Bob Dylan, American Country and Folk music. But I also enjoyed the Glam period of rock as well. There were many years that I wouldn't go on stage without eyeliner or such. Most of all, I have a rock n roll heart and am foremost..... a giant music FAN! I love to be a part of the sound. These days when I'm not doing what we "do wah do" with the D'Ritos, I'm writing and recording original music in my home studio or shooting and editing video. Thanks to Tom Abbot and Chris Diepenbrock for being my new brothers and keeping the D'Ritos alive...
