Clawhammer Banjo

About Me

Well, I have no band to speak of, so I'll give you a little bit about Patty!!I was born in 1957 and raised on the central coast of New Jersey in a little riverfront town of Rumson in Monmouth County. In 1994, I moved to Wake Forest, NC and have lived here since then. I became interested in the banjo when I was 20, but unfortunately didn't think I was capable of playing a musical instrument. In 2002, I attended Mt. Airy's fall festival and left there with the inspiration to learn the banjo and worked on 3 finger for a little under a year under the instruction of Julio Boysenberry. In 2003, I was up in Asheville, NC and heard clawhammer for the first time played by a good friend named Mike Long of OK. I left the mountains and within a day or two, walked into Donald Zepp's store and requested lessons from him. I've met some wonderful and kind folks along this musical journey. -Sat with Kirk Sutphin up at Mars Hill 2004 as well as up in Appomatix, VA at the 4-H Center. -Joe Newberry was very kind to accept my request to sit with him this past spring..Thank you Joe!! -Zepp also introduced me to Adam Hurt up at Mt. Airy, 2006. Got to spend a few moments with Adam as well as purchasing his 2nd CD up at Clifftop. Two wonderful projects by him. He also introduced me to Chris Coole whose tune, Sam's Dream, I've been working on. Chris was kind enough to sit with me up at Clifftop, 2006, and go over it. Thanks Chris! -I've also had the pleasure of sitting with Alan Julich of Stillhouse Bottom Band out of Durham/Chapel Hill, NC -Thorn Cary up in the Asheville area has been a recent influence for me in the summer of 2006 -Attended a workshop with Diane Jones in the summer of 2006 up at Lo and Mary Gordon's home in Cedar Mountain. Got a chance to take a look at Lo's banjo workshop during that time. I play a Ramsey Standard.Thank you, Donald Zepp, for accompanying me with your guitar on Darlin Nellie Grey..This profile was edited with Thomas' myspace editor™ V2.5
