Band Website: Contact us here if you dig the deep -- sick !
Band Members: We're three at the present - but we see so much more. What we lack is the paper to realize the vision. We truly believe we have a diamond in the rough here... a marketable sojurn that will leave listeners intrigued, if not disturbed. And it's damn good theater, which we would like to see fleshed out. Our names are not important yet... it's the end goal we wish to impart. Whether it's truth or folly, James Maybrick as Jack the Ripper is a perspective that should be (to us) promoted, regardless of the controversy.
Influences: James 'Sir Jim' Maybrick was a hypochondriac and took many drugs commonly available in the 19th Century, such as absinthe and strychnine. His 'medicine' of choice, however, was arsenic. Although it is a lethal poison, if arsenic is ingested in small doses, it can actually cause a state of euphoria and give the user a feeling of heightened strength and invincibility. The down side is that once a person has become a regular user of arsenic, greater and greater doses are needed to feed the addiction. As one may suspect, eventually the user ingests a dose that is fatal. If the addict attempts to stop taking the substance, they undergo horrifying, and usually fatal, withdrawal. These influences, coupled with his conviction that his wife was engaged in an affair, contributed to James Maybrick's mental deterioration and ultimate decision to revenge
her infidelity.
Sounds Like: Though the music is metal-based, A Gentleman Born is not attempting to 'sound' like anyone. The goal is to lead the listener musically through a series of historical events and introduce a face to the name of Jack the Ripper. As others hear the compositions, they will doubtless create their own comparisons.
