With songs like "Pana Pana" and "Desahogo del Alma", he has earned a coveted place within the genre popularized by the likes of Puff Daddy and Eminem. The artist, whose real name is Jose Manuel Guitián, is the son of Cuban exiles that arrived at the beginning of the 1960's. Shortly after their arrival to the United States, the Guitian family settled in the populated district of Washington Heights, New York.As he recalls with pride, Don Dinero witnessed the birth of the genre during his childhood in the Big Apple and he immediately embrassed the new movement. As the 70s rolled along, the genre of rap developed much more into a type of musical protest of the marginalized sectors of the big city rather than an accepted musical choice. However, the Cuban-American rapper was fascinated with what he saw was tacking place in the back streets of his house, where rappers alongside DJs would make up songs "In New York, everything happens in the streets, because there are not a lot of parks where people can go" Don Dinero shared.Don Dinero would listen and absorbed what he witnessed. It came as no surprise to his friends that by the end of the 80 in his adolescence, he baptised himslef Cuba Rock with his motherland in mind and heart and got well on his way to become a true embassador for rap. In 1990 he recorded a single that although was not particularly powerful in the States, it did make significant noise on the other side of the Atlantic. Meanwhile, he continued to live the normal life of any young person trying to make it in the less prosperous areas of the most important city in the world. For example, like other rappers, he enjoyed contributing his share of graffitti to city walls and meters with his stage name. In the rap lifestyle, this is a way to promote oneself for free. This street wise way of life finally took its toll on Don Dinero who at the time still was known as Cuba Rock, when he became involved with drugs. He began drug dealing in the city streets, as did other rap heroes like The Notorious BIG, until on one unforgetable day in 1992 when he was arrested and charged with drug possesion and intent to distribute "Drugs are bad for people's health, but so are other substances such as alcohol and tabacco and yet, some are considered legal and some are not" expressed Don DineroHe remained incarcerated until 1996, and was granted conditinal freedon under parole supervision through 1999. Before he was able to complete his sentence, he decided to become a car salesman, where his talent to make money as well as his new artistic name were discovered. This lifestyle provided a decent living for Don Dinero "I liked that job because it allowed me to make a good living and help out those who needed help" recalls Dinero of his life back in 1998. This was also a significant year for him as an evolving artist. This was the year when he crossed paths with an old coleage, who became a big influence in his carrer. His sname was Cuban Link.Once he completed his parole time he made a key decision: to dedicate himself completely to the business of music. He quickly opened an independent record company (Cuban Connection), with his brother Oscar. This business served as a great support for his personal life as well as for his artistic development. With the new label he re-baptised himself Don Dinero and released two singles that same year (1999): "Don Dinero" and ""Life is a Battle". Both songs served as proof of his return to the music scene, and it became evident that he would make a respectable return. The new milleniu, has brought many great things in the way of Don Dinero, who is now married with three children and has been living in Hialeah for over two years. He recorded the music video of "Where you At?" where he was joined by a friend from the past; Cuban Link. The phenomenon of Don Dinero really began to take shape the following year (2001). He made the track "Pana Pana next to another partner of the rap world, D'Mingo (ex- salsa singer). The track was completed in April and by June it has made a big buzz in cities like New York and Miami. That track was followed by the hit "Deshogo del Alma" which tells, among other things, about the struggles he suffered a while in prison..In the following months, he has been enjoying his growing popularity, while making a several national and international performances, all while working on his next album titled "Que Bola" The album, released in July of 2003 (his birhtday) contains both these popular tracks as well as other new material. This slam dunk album contains other hits such as "Mi Gente, Esperate, Ahi Pari and Where you at?" among others. In all, Don Dinero considers himself an artist that tells it as it is. "Each day, people struggle to make it in this world and they experience all kinds of lessons, like how tought it can be to hussle and make some money to support a familiy, but one also comes across some beautiful experiences like the birth of child". This trully sets the tone of "Que Bola" where Don Dinero included tracks like the carefree "Ahi Pari" along with the melancholic "Desahogo del Alma" Don Dinero is the new sensation of the Latin rap scene. This trully sets the tone of "Que Bola" where Don Dinero included tracks like the carefree "Ahi Pari" along with the melancholic "Desahogo del Alma"The single, Pana Pana, rendered Don Dinero the first urban artist in Miami, to break tropical radio and in 2003, his career continued to flourish as he appeared on the pilot for Mun 2s The Roof. Universal Latino picked up the Que Bola album for distribution and soon after, Dinero became one of the first urban artists to appear as a guest on the Latin talk show phenomenon Christina. He then released his Su Vida y La Calle DVD and in 2004, was honored to be selected to appear on the Celia Cruz tribute album in which Son De La Loma, the song he was featured on, was released as a single.Next, Dinero landed a feature with Mexican pop princess, Pilar Montenegro, and then released The Best of Don Dinero Remixes album and DVD. He accomplished these achievements before there was even an urban Latin music market in existence! After performances, and appearances on popular syndicated shows, at concerts, festivals, clubs, and everywhere in between, Don Dinero, is now a household name in Miami, and the rest of the Latin world. Due to his independent success with Que Bola, in early 2005, he became the first urban artist to snag a joint venture deal with Universal Latino and then release his second Spanish album Ahora Que Si. Since then, Dinero has sold over 200,000 records overall! As a hip-hop artist, in the midst of reggaetons mainstream invasion, Dinero is definitely unique, for he has managed to remain on top while staying true to his New York hip-hop roots. Often referred to as the first of his kind, he feels privileged to be granted the opportunity to pave a way for other upcoming Latin hip-hop artists, who share a similar passion for business and music, respectfully. He is now preparing to release his third Spanish album El Ultimo_Guerrero on which You can hear the heart and soul of this CEO / Artist / Etc all over this project.
