Born in Limerick, Ireland and raised in Kingston Ontario, Eoghan spent much of early years visiting Ireland and watching local performers tell stories through music. Eoghan picked up the guitar at the age of 13, drawn to the complexity of it and its expressive qualities. He spent most of his teenage years with the guitar attached to him, playing and practicing anywhere. The learning of the instrument consumed him, listening and absorbing any music that he heard. He started his first band at the age of 17 playing rock and funk but also blending his interest in chords and progressions into what he labeled “elevator musicâ€.At 20, already heavily influenced by funk music and it’s rhythm, he joined the Kingston band “Funktion Junktion†and started listening to artists such as Soullive, Herbie Hancock, John Scofield, eventually using “six degrees of separation†to find his way back to Miles Davis and then to JazzHe went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree in Performance from prestigious Humber College of Performing Arts in Toronto, Canada. While at Humber he studied with such artists as: Ted Quinlan, David Occhipinti, Kim Ratcliffe, Don Thompson. While in school he continued to play in various bands: small jazz combos, fusion bands, and funk bands using all as an opportunity to craft his own compositions.
