About Me

TERRY S. In many ways the DC bred rapper, Terry S. endured substantial obstacles throughout his young yet remarkably interesting life before becoming in 2006-2007 one of the most discussed underground rap figures in Miami, if not the east coast in general. Although TS could fit the description of a mercenary, his hook writing ability proves he has intelligence to formulate lasting hits. As a result, his music, as stated by TVT Records and reps from Sony and Universal, are able to be crossed over to numerous key markets. He is appealing to both those who like his raunchy and real lyrics as well as those who can appreciate his long list of professional accomplishments. And too, TS doesn’t forget about “Team Pimp” either. He helps his entourage grow into successful artists by recruiting them to perform at every venue that will accommodate performances in addition to his, engineering and recording time, and all concerts TS originates.Born Terry Steven Burka and raised in Washington DC, TS grew up in a broken home. His mother and father split when he was two years old. TS remained with his mother in the Springhill Lake apartment projects in Greenbelt, MD. As a teen, he fell into the criminal lifestyle and began hustling drugs and running guns, until he was sent to Fishburne Military Academy. There TS excelled in all aspects and graduated a year early at the age of 16. At the age of 17, TS encountered a woman whom suggested he begin stripping. From age 17 to 19, TS became a sought after exotic dancer in the MD, DC, VA area. This new profession put him on track with people in the industry and brought him closer to the stage. At 1500 a day for private parties, dancing became a new way to make legal money. After already realizing his musical talent and writing ability at a young age, it was around this point in the late-'90s that he turned toward rap seriously and began using his money to fund studio sessions and eventually a move to Los Angeles, CA. His first taste of potential success came in 2000 while living in Los Angeles when he met the owner of an indie label based in CA and was asked to attend a rehearsal for other artists on the label. When asked to jump on the microphone the owner pulled him aside and said he was going to sign TS as a solo act. Not much resulted from the deal and TS returned to DC to enlist in the United States Army Infantry.During the next four years, while serving as an escort to the current President of the United States, and a Team Leader of an Infantry unit whose sole mission was immediate response combat force(IRC) , TS zeroed in on his skills as a writer, producer, arranger, engineer, mixer, performer, and soldier while in the Army. He also held lead roles in the US Army production titled “Spirit Of America,” with crowd sizes reaching between 10 and 12 thousand per show at multiple national arenas. TS became affiliated with Go Go Rock records and began collaborating with Ted “ Buzzy” Pindell, PaTreece, and other local DC artists. When studio scheduling conflicts constantly arose, TS purchased thousands of dollars of his own studio equipment and began recording. His first album, November 81, was a novice album done in 2004. Every aspect from beginning-to-end was done by TS. In MD, and VA it spawned local hits such as “No such Thing,” and “Dogtags,” a hit amongst soldiers in the Army. Generating a small buzz in the national capital region, TS felt it time to move to new area with a better music market as the end of his active duty service neared. After relocating to Miami, FL in hopes of recording and releasing an album to contend with the majors of today, TS did just that. Production began on his new album “Raise the Bar” while TS was still in the Florida National Guard and attending Miami Dade College full-time. Shortly after beginning production on the album, TS was hit by an SUV while riding his sport bike in Downtown Miami. Although not proven, authorities believe the hit came as a form of retaliation from another rapper in the Miami underground circuit. TS was tasked with relearning to eat and walk while finishing two out of the four classes he was enrolled in at Miami Dade College. In addition, TS also finished recording the second half of the album from his wheelchair. Tracks 13 and 14 on the album were recorded only two hours after a final surgery through his throat was performed to remove a filter to stop blood clots. TS stated, “I always said if I fail in life it wont be because of a lack of effort or initiative on my part.” TS has since begun performing at most major venues in South Beach, performing for celebrities and with celebrities. He has performed at events such as the Martin Luther King Day parade, Cease The Violence Benefit, Cancer Walk, Rock the Vote, Invisible Children of Africa benefit and many others. TS was recently recruited to be the President of the nationally chaptered club, MEISA(Music and Entertainment Industry Student association), after his role as a director, producer, writer, host, performer, coordinator, choreographer, promoter and caster of the 2006 Culture Shock Concert at Miami Dade College showcasing local student talents. What separates Terry S. from the rest? First and foremost, TS has created, marketed and branded his music to fall in sync with Pop/Rock/Hip-Hop/Electronica/Drum and Bass/Lounge/Dirty South/Reaggaeton. This raises the bar in the industry and sends a message to stop putting out albums that follow one format. TS stated, “I have too much creativity going on in my head to only do hard rap or dirty south, I want to do everything. People even tell me my album stays in the player because when you turn it on you know your going to get a lot of styles and their ears don’t get as tired of it as they do hearing a whole genre formulated CD.” TS has resided in Miami, FL for a year and a half and has completed a full length professional album entitled “Raise The Bar,” with “Thievenaire,” “Candyland,” and “Turn Around (Get at it)” being the lead off singles. TS has since recorded new tracks such as “Young and Slick,” “Your eyes,” and “Bad Boy” which are getting major club play in Miami. TS has performed at more major venues than any underground rapper in Miami. TS has captivated audiences of all races, religious backgrounds, sexes, and ages displaying a charismatic and magnetic energy on stage incomparable to any. TS fits well in the most ghetto of venues as well as the most upscale. TS has served in a combat MOS in the United States Army and has the support of millions of soldiers and veterans worldwide. This by the way, opens the door for military base touring, Disabled American Veterans benefits, the opportunity and easier access of performing in conjunction with Army sponsored events, troop moral in Iraq and a warmer welcome in the process having served himself. TS is in negotiation with Blue Baby Bottle mics to sponsor him as an artist. TS has the opportunity to go to Harvard College and Georgetown University and the list goes on and on. With a unique look, business focus, street credibility and a sound that is commercially universal, Terry S. is poised to conquer the entertainment industry in more than one market.
