The best thing about anniversaries is the excuse to party; not that you need one. So celebrate three years of Breakloose, Friday at The Works. “It’s been a trip to watch it happen over the years. All the support is definitely appreciated,†said Derek Chase, aka Dilemma, of Breakloose. “We’ve gone from being Detroit’s first breakbeat monthly to a showcase for electronic music in and around the area. And the formula is simple: A variety of genres by the DJs who know them best.†The Breakloose crew is Chase, Mark Skulas (Exodus), Theodore Barrie (Teddie), Robert Linville (Nimbus) and Aaron Alseri (Ronin Selecta). They’ve brought in artists like Simply Jeff, ED209, Chris Carter and Deekline & Wizard. But “every DJ who has graced the decks at a Breakloose event was just as important as the next,†Skulas said. The anniversary will feature two tag team sets — one with Dark Cube and Dilemma, the other with DJ Revolt, Exodus and Nimbus – and sets by, Elijah, The Hydro Crew, Teddie, Dj Seoul, Alf 1, Jan D, Brian Gillespie and Geoff Johnson. But there’s more in store this year: “We’ve got Breakin’ the House at Northern Lights Lounge March 16 and then the second Unity party April 27,†Chase elaborated. Why should you go? “To stay out late and party,†Skulas said. “Most events have two rooms and run for about seven hours. If you can’t shake your ass and have a good time between 14 hours of party, you must be broke.â€
