Hi and welcome! This site is dedicated to the one and only "Guitar God" known as CC DeVille ~ Please enjoy:)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~
Born Bruce Anthony Johannesson on May 14, 1962 in the Bay Ridge area of Brooklyn, NY, CC's interest in music began at the age of 2, after seeing The Beatles perform on the Ed Sullivan show. He began playing guitar at the age of 5, after being given a $27 Japanese Telecaster copy. As his love for music grew, he began listening to such bands as Led Zepplin, The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Areosmith, Van Halen, Cheap Trick and Queen.
He formed the band Lace in New York at the age of 18, which adopted a highly sexual "glam" Image. During this time, he began writing "Talk Dirty To Me", which later would appear on Poison's first album, "Look What The Cat Dragged In".
CC began studying music theory at New York University, but left, deciding instead to move to Los Angeles to pursue a music career. He played in several bands, including Screaming Mimi, Lace Slip, St. James, among others, before auditioning for Poison.
His audition impressed drummer Rikki Rockett, bassist Bobby Dall, but angered vocalist Bret Michaels, as he refused to play the songs that had been given to him, opting instead to jam with a guitar riff he had written. That riff, which would later be featured on "Talk Dirty To Me", would ultimatly launch the bands career. In fact, he beat out Slash, who would later go onto fame as the guitarist for Guns N' Roses, for the job.
"Look What The Cat Dragged In", in which CC co-wrote with Bret Michaels, was released on May 16, 1986 and included the hits "Talk Dirty To Me", "I Want Action" and "I Won't Forget You". Sales for the album topped 2 million copies. He also wrote much of the material for the 2nd album "Open Up and Say...AHH!", released on May 21st, 1988, and went on to sell 8 million copies worldwide. It included the hit "Nothin' But A Good Time". which he co-wrote.
He performed lead guitar on Warrant's hit song "Cherry Pie" in 1990 (from the album of the same name). It had become evident that a significant growth in his songwriting prowess and musicianship began to take shape on the Poison album "Flesh and Blood", which was released the same year. It had become apparent by this time, however, that he had a problem with cocaine and alcohol which resulted in friction between he and Michaels and ultimatly led to his departure from the band for an extended period. During this time, he performed on the Son-In-Law soundtrack under the name of the CC DeVille Experience.
In 1998, CC formed Samantha 7 with bassist Krys Baratto and drummer Francis Ruiz. The bands name was inspired by CC's elementary school teacher, Samantha Severn, upon whom he had a childhood crush. They performed at Woodstock 99, and in 2000, released their self titled debut album on Columbia Records.
Prosecutors said DeVille hit a parked vehicle on August 24, 2005 while backing out of his girlfriends driveway, allegedy ramming another parked car thus injuring his girlfriend. He later pled no contest to driving under the influence, causing injury.
In March of 2006, he appeared on the VH1 reality show The Surreal Life, the very same day he left rehab. He recently tasted Billboard chart success once again with the release of "The Best Of Poison: 20 Years Of Rock", which charted at #17. It celebrated the bands 20th anniversary, and a large US tour followed.
CC played lead guitar as a guest on the Motorhead song "God Was Never On Your Side" from their latest album "Kiss Of Death". The album was a success in Europe entering the national top 50 charts in Germany (highest with #4), Norway, Sweden, Austria, Switzerland, and the UK. Lemmy and CC had been friends since 1990.
He also guest-stared as Ashley Davies' rich, rock-star father, Raife Davies, on the new series South of Nowhere, currently airing on The N. However, the character was killed in a car accident in the series' second season premier. In January of 2007, he, along with other Surreal Life alumni, appeared on the Surreal Life: Fame Games, a spin-off of The Surreal Life, all trying to win $100,000. He was unfortunatly eliminated from the competition on the episode which aired on February 11, 2007, after losing a game of go-fish to Ron Jeremy and Pepa from the rap group Salt-N-Pepa.
On March 15, 2007, CC welcomed the birth of his first child, a son named Vallon Deville.
