Limbo

About Me

Limbo play music that is entirely improvised, free jazz that is intense, spiritual, beautiful and unpredictable. The music we make has been compared to Miles Davis, Can and other sonic explorers of the 1970's, but our own individual influences are much wider, from dub, folk and electonica to African, Indian and Eastern European music.
Limbo began with six musicians sharing the top floor of a run-down building in St Pauls, Bristol. We had three studio spaces with dodgy wiring, leaking roof and some very strange neighbours. We had all been busy with other projects, and we decided to get together to make some music of a different kind- spontaneous, unplanned music that was free to follow its own course.
Our first album, 'Limbo', was released on the Astral label; 'Wire' magazine said: "...A must-buy for fans of the genre."
Our latest album, 'Seven Types Of Ambiguity', is now available.
Both albums are available on our website: www.limbo-music.co.uk , along with news, free music to download and some nice photos.
We are currently working with writer, actor and raconteur Gerald Tyler, and when we played with him at the Bristol Community Music Festival at Ashton Court in July 2006, Bristol's Venue Magazine said: "Limbo proved how remarkable they are, blending jazz ambience and a trip-hop ethos with leftfield poetic narration into a spellbinding and memorable set. The reflective cool was a welcome breather..."
