BELIEVE

Believe is an apropos name for three young women who have come together to sing. The name goes beyond a mere CD title or group name…it characterizes the feeling of their music, their friendship, their commitment to singing together. The three women of Believe, Malama Grilho, Rayna K. Chong and Karie Pastor are not new to the contemporary local music scene. They were the first group to win the Pride of the Islands 1 contest back in 1997. Winning gave them the additional honor of performing with island music star Sean Na'auao on two songs; "Forever With You" and "Stir It Up," which quickly became island favorites. When the Pride of the Island 4 CD was in production, they were asked to return as guest artists with a single entitled, "Don't You Worry." Their voices can be heard on albums by other popular island artists, on recording projects by Baba B, Mana 'Ohana, Namahana and on the biggest selling Hawaiian CD, "Alone In IZ World" by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole. Malama, Rayna and Karie come from different backgrounds, different parts of the island, and bring their love of different kinds of music to Believe. Malama Grilho - loves R & B and gospel music. She currently resides in her home town of Haleiwa. Founded the group Believe. Rayna K. Chong - has a deep appreciation for classical music and love ballads. A 1994 graduate of Kamehameha School. She was born and raised in Wai'anae, Karie Pastor - enjoys gospel and Broadway. She is a graduate of Aiea High School and currently resides in Kahalu’u. In 2002, Believe released their self-title debut CD with the Hobo House On The Hill production team and record label. In 2003, the album was nominated for the Na Hoku Hano Hano Award “Contemporary Album of the Year”. Since then, they have traveled through the islands and abroad performing in Disneyland California, The Stratosphere Las Vegas, Universal Studios Florida, Disney World-Florida, Sanrio Land –Tokyo, Disneyland-Tokyo, Inazawa Hall-Inazawa Japan and at the Tanabata Matsuri in Ichinomiya Japan. The goal that Believe has set since its beginning is to affect people's lives in a positive way, and to make people happy through their music. Believe…it's more than a name…it's their way of life.
