About Me

Who is Mykal Fax? In this era of entertainers being everywhere and consequently going nowhere, he is one of the few artists successfully blending his art forms to create a style that is truly distinct. Fax is a multi-faceted creative force whose work crosses the borders of music, acting, writing, directing and producing, the result of which is always arresting and forever fresh. His brand of creative cross-pollination fuses music and acting in a way the Caribbean community has yet to experience. To date, Fax has mastered playing seemingly young immigrants on screens and stages; but don't be fooled by the baby-face, Fax has spent over a decade honing his acting skills for film and his recent foray into theater. Jamaican-born Fax migrated to the United States in the early 1990s. Shortly after settling in Brooklyn, NY, Fax found himself exploring the medium of video as a tool for _expression. While at Tilden High School, Fax and friends experimented with home-made videos. Once these videos began circulating, people took note of Fax's early performances and were pleased with his raw talent. At the urging of viewers, Fax started to look at acting with more seriousness and saw greater possibilities for a career as an entertainer. While in high school, Fax used the support and encouragement from people who were in sheer awe of his impromptu video performances to build his esteem around his other passion-music. Without hesitation, Fax used the momentum of his video performances to launch his music career. Initially, Fax worked under the alias, Pako G before adopting the pseudonym Cymbal, which he uses to date. Armed with a body of cleverly crafted lyrics and a unique style of delivery, Fax set out to make his impression on reggae-dancehall. Behind the scenes, Fax has scribed lyrics for the likes of Merciless, Sister Charmaine and Jigsy King. As Pako G, Fax started making music as early as 1994. Since starting, he had several successful singles released including "Wicked Man", "Cut Wheh Caan't Heal" and "Wheh Fly Inna Dem Head". With grippingly honest lines like, "I have lived for 20 years but I feel like 51", Pako G developed a following of those seeking conscious lyrics with an edge. Working as Cymbal, Mykal Fax has two singles titled "Basketball Blues" and "Fun Thing" both under the Key One Label. Naturally, people are abuzz about Mykal "Cymbal" Fax's debut album, on which he is currently at work on with NawteeChild Productions and other producers.
Truly a man driven by his love for performance, Fax is managing two distinct careers simultaneously. He has set himself apart from other performers because he is working on his acting career and still filling his musical aspirations. Drawing from a well of inspirations including Buju Banton and Sizzla, Fax built Cymbal, his musical persona, with a desire to have listeners experience his music's lyrical capabilities and stirring messages. In the modern tradition set forth by the likes of Buju Banton , Fax writes music that is purely creative, not normal and definitely not simple. The name Cymbal has already picked up steam on the music circuit as Fax has opened for Beenie Man, Mr. Easy, Barrington Levy and Elephant Man to name a few; in addition, he has delivered his own exhilarating performances at venues like Club Eclipse in East Orange, NJ, Act Three in Bronx, NY and the New York college circuit.
If his future as a recording artist is as bright as his present career as an actor, fans are looking at the Caribbean's next Renaissance man! Fax co-wrote the smash hit Foreign alongside long time collaborator Steve "Tehut-Nine" McAlpin. In addition to taking Foreign from concepts to paper, Fax produced the movie and took it from paper to screen! The movie premiered in September 2005 at the renowned Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn, NY and in Hartford, CT at the West Indian Social Club. Since its release, VP Records has distributed the project stateside and worldwide. Foreign tells the story of a Jamaican youth who migrates to Brooklyn , NY. Foreign is highly acclaimed within the Caribbean community and audiences are in love with its blend of comedy and high drama. Fax followed the strong reception received from Foreign, with an even stronger performance in Michael Denton 's Krosses. His role in this sordid and twisted affair of the heart captivated sold-out audiences during the initial New York run. Fax's performance alongside veteran actor Lacell "Girlie" Parnell enjoyed rave reviews from the media. In the near future, fans can watch for Fax's cameo appearance in Impulse a upcoming American film. Fax has high aspirations for his career and he is looking forward to represent authentic Caribbean male characters on international big screens. Mykal Fax is moving one step closer to his dream of becoming the first Caribbean-born black male to bring home the coveted Golden Boy with his forthcoming film project which he also wrote
