Who is J. Hunter ? Many, most if not all of you who are reading this may not know that I am a New Jersey native who first discovered the art of Djing while still attending high school in the late 1980's. At first, like most Dj’s during that time, I was a die-hard hip-hop nonstop bee-bop ‘till you drop cuttin’ and scratchin’ on the wheels of steel kind of DJ. Back then, Cool DJ Red Alert, Chuck Chillout and Marley Marl ruled the weekend radio shows. I would listen to and record their mix shows every single weekend. As I got older, I began to stay up later and later on the weekends. So late that I would outlast the hip-hop mix shows and another kind of party music would play. I soon learned that this music was called house music. I began to listen out for it every single week. I was hooked right away. After listening to house music shows only a few times I began to record mix shows by Tony Humphries or Bobby Konders or Kenny Carpenter or Ken Terry or Jay ‘Mixin’ Dixon or whoever I could find spinning this funky soul music on the radio late at night. The House Music explosion of the 1990's came at a time when I was in love with Soulful House Music and also when I was also at my peak as a very popular Hip-Hop and R&B DJ that had various parts of New Jersey BUZZING!! As time went on, the artist formerly know as DJ BlackMan has held residencies or has made guest appearances at ALL of New Jerseys major nightclubs and parties. After a long hiatus, I was invited by Dawn Tallman to watch her perform at the ‘Hotter Than July’
event being held in Brooklyn back in August 2006. Since I was planning to make a comeback, I armed myself with 50 copies of my newest mixed cd called ‘Who Is J. Hunter’. After receiving a number of emails praising my mixed cd, without hesitation, I accepted Dawn’s next invitation to watch her perform with 280 West featuring Diamond Temple at the Clubhouse Jamboree in Prospect Park one week later. I made 50 more copies of my mixed cd and a few days later more than a dozen emails were waiting in my inbox all filled with overwhelming compliments praising my mixed cd. From that moment on, I was convinced. I returned to the ‘Hotter Than July BK’ event with a brand new mixed cd called ‘Elevation’ and then ..... WOW !!! Things happened so quickly after that, I don’t know where to start!! I gave away over 600 copies of ‘Elevation’ at every single party that I attended and quickly followed up with another mixed cd called ‘Home Grown’ and suddenly I began getting offers to DJ in places like SOULGASM NYC, 88.7 WRSU FM’s ‘SOULFUL SATURDAYS’ and even at the world famous SAPPHIRE LOUNGE!!....................(TO BE CONTINUED)..... ... you can if you just close your eyes, open your mind and allow your body to feel the music that I play.SEE YOU ON THE DANCEFLOOR!!!Jhunter
