Cellist based in Lancaster, UK.
Background in classical music but then spent years in a musical wilderness, apart from busking with the Bach cello suites in Cumbria and Devon and occasionally finding myself onstage at strange poetry slams in Munich.
Now thanks to encouragement from some great people in Lancaster (Paul, Jane, Sian, Scott, Nick and others) I've discovered Balkan, Klezmer and western european folk music.
I'm now part of the Lancaster-based band "The Balkanics" (formerly known as Balkanic Eruption) and featuring Paul Ferguson and Jane Lawrence on fiddles, Joe Murphy on whistles and percussion, Roger Purves on bazouki, mandolin and guitar, Sian Phillips on accordion, Noel Cass on percussion and myself. We started playing together in August 2007 and are now playing gigs around Lancaster. We're up for playing at festivals in the summer!
I've also learnt some English tunes from Jane and we're playing violin-cello duets, with 3/2 hornpipe mania just round the corner. We played at the Poets and Players night in Manchester in February 2008.
Sian persuaded me to play some klezmer tunes with Jude and Tracy and it now seems that I'm also part of their klezmer band which is called Scirocco!
