LAURENCE - A DRUMMER'S PROFILE
My fancy to drums first begun way back in 1977 when I was given my first 3 piece drum kit as a present by my dad, a musician himself playing saxaphone with a jazz quartet.
Drumming came late in my life but got grips to the art immeditely , and I took it more of a challenge then anything else.I never looked back ever since!
Due to the fact that in those days working in clubs and restaurants still proved to be profitable enough to make a living, I still turned my back to cabaret and switched to playing my favourite music instead - Rock and Heavy Metal,
where I eventually ended up playing for my own entertainment, sound-proofing garages and playing semi-pro shows but in the meantime pulling crowds up to the stage during every performance.
I drummed for local bands like Necromancer, VHF, Rough Rider, Killing Time, joined forces with Mirage, Stratcast,Purple Haze (to mention a few) jammed with many, and nowadays I find myself as a former band member with Fire who has been my privilege to work with during these past five years .
My life in the local scene was forming and breaking up bands, I even took a go at doing main vocals and drumming and there were even times where I was drumming for two bands at the same time 'cos rock drummers were so scarce back then.
I always consider drumming as Therapy to both mind and body and never ever dreamed about any special goals .
My main influences are all likes of Professional Drummers whether punk or jazz, all with their own feel and style .
I learn (with the help of other musicians), by watching the audience, of how to be an innovator in a society, sadly, a diminishing society of a different kind of music appreciation - that of Rock Music.
After all, playing music is a hard committment in any way you look at it!!!
Well................
You might still hear me say "You are never too old to Rock N Roll' in some ten years time!
This to all who come to watch!
This is my profile!!Laurence
