About Me

Right now I'm just about to start a masters course in Leeds, and large gaps of spare time I have between lessons I fill in by working at the Mint Club and writing for Traffic Mag. It's pretty cool because I get paid to listen to DJ's and go to nights that I'd probably pay to go to anyway, and I wake up on a Sunday feeling a lot less horrid and a little less poor than I normally would!

BIO

I began dj’ing just over 8 years ago now, after going to clubs in the North East like Sugarshack and Shindig. With my nightclubbing experience being limited to those places with red carpets and silver handrails upon until this point, I couldn’t believe the energy and enthusiasm in those clubs at the time and like many others quickly invested in a set of turntables. After a move to Leeds in 2002 and further eye opening visits to clubs such as Union, Technique, Superconductor and Back to Basics, I became interested in techno and electro music after going to see DJ’s such as Dexter, Andy Weatherall, Billy Nasty and the DMX Crew and coming back buzzing about how good it had been.

Before I did one and went travelling for about a year I was a co-promoter and resident DJ at a night in Middlesbrough called 'Kill The Disco', which wass a good little party me and a few mates started back in November 2006. We started at a small venue in 'boro called Pacific where we hosted a free weekly event for the best part of a year, and in June and August we knocked out a couple of larger scale events at the Cornerhouse Area 2 (Rouge) with March Ashken (Leftroom) and Will Saul (Simple Records). In October 2007 the gang moved to Leeds and we put on a couple of parties at the Mint Club; We had some wicked guests like DNCN, Szenario, Lee Mortimer and Alex Tsidiris come down and play for us. We play good electronic music - minimal, techno, house, electro etc; after living in Leeds for so long and being spoilt with good music every weekend, there wasn't too much going on up in our neck of the woods so we thought we'd try and do something about it. After a year or so away whilst we all concentrated on getting our degrees sorted we are relaunching this summer with an outdoor daytime BBQ party - check out www.myspace.com/killthediscoleeds or www.facebook.com/killthedisco for more information very soon!

I have been runner up in I-DJ Magazines Raw Talent competition twice, in November 2006 and in May 2005, and I was featured as one of the best 5 mixes in www.mixdiscmonthly.com in December 2005. I studied Music Production for a year at Leeds College of Music part time while I was at Uni, and I am finally finding my feet (I think!) and putting something that is half listenable together. Watch this space!

I presented and produced a radio show entitled ‘Live @ The Underground’ on www.lsrfm.com from Aug 2003 - May 2006, which received excellent reviews in both IDJ and DJ Mag. DJ’ing on the show allowed me to appear alongside big name guests like Ellen Allien, Marco Passarani, James Holden, Slam and Santos, as well as really pushing the electro/electronica sound on the show with some of my favourite DJ’s and producers such as Andrea Parker from Touchin’ Bass, Sir Real and 8 Bit Apocalypse from the Kracktronik stable, techno/electro legend Billy Nasty, B-Pitch’s Apparat and Pretension Record’s Bass Kittens.

"Defiantly underground, Adam's set is exactly what modern electro should be. He was a runner-up last Spring, and this set is even darker. Since then he's also ran his own radio show on lsrfm.com and completed a music course. After five years on the ones and twos, his ambition now is to make an electro tune that would make Anthony Rother foam at the mouth. Good Lad." I-DJ Magazine, November 2006

“None of that trendy mullet electro for Adam, this is the Detroit/German version of electro, a heady fusion of machine soul and b-boy beats. He’s arrived at this sound via prog and breakbeat and finally a few listens to Billy Nasty and Anthony Rother. And bugger us if it doesn’t sound like he’s been doing it all his life.” I-DJ Magazine, May 2005
