About Me

*FEEL FREE TO DOWNLOAD OUR SONGS*When we booked Blue Traffic to play at the Borough Blues Club, I think it's fair to say we took the decision to book them as they were highly recommended. To ensure we hadn't made a mistake, our chairman John Dixon telephoned the band to make sure that they understood that we were a blues club, to which the lead guitarist and singer Dave Williams replied: "Don't worry kid (John is in his fifties, Dave's a lot younger) you won't be disappointed".Cocky words we thought, but the deed was done and they were on their way. Little did we know what we were in for!Blue Traffic is a three piece outfit, based in and around the Rhondda Valley and comprises Dave Williams - Lead Guitar and Vocals, Wayne Jones - Bass and Vocals, and Meirion Sampson - Drums and vocals. The guys turned up, set up, and were playing within twenty minutes, no sound check, no quick practice, nothing, just straight into the first set with Statesborough Blues , Bare Footin' and Little Wing , in quick succession.Wow, what a sound! This was high pressure blues straight out of the Hendrix bottom drawer, with scintillating performances from each and every member of the band.We were all, as a fellow committeeman said, gobsmacked by the sheer brilliance of Dave Williams on lead guitar, and were no less impressed with the rest of the band. Then came JJ Cale's Cocaine , a stunning version of All Along the Watchtower , out Hendrixing the man himself, followed by a very heavy Stormy Monday . The band continued in this vein and eventually finished the first set with a belting version of BB King favourite Rock Me .The second set erupted with an instrumental which went straight into Voodoo Chile , this was followed by a 'rocky' version of what seems to be the club's anthem, Hoochie Coochie Man .Then we had Sweet Home Chicago, Red House, an old jazz number Flip Flop and Fly (done very un-jazz like!) followed with Blue Traffic's version of Black Magic Woman - very Santana-like with the added bonus of, would you believe, the Beatles Eleanor Rigby riff in the middle of it - very special indeed. It was clear that the past problem of chit-chat amongst the audience was not evident on this night; such was the dazzling performance of Dave and the boys, no one wanted to miss a single note!!!!Many more numbers came and went including a sweet version of Peter Green's Albatross. But all things must end so, with their last number being Snatch it Back which, for all we know, may have been a tribute to last month's band of the same name, Snatch it Back, and then their second set was finished.Or so we thought - we and the band had reckoned without our members, who refused to let them go - so, two encores followed, and still they weren't satisfied. The band's attitude was fantastic, and up they got again for the final number, Crossroads, absolutely brilliant. Our members made it very clear on the night that they want these guys back again; and I don't think it will be too long before this happens. A fabulous gig with an outstanding band, what more could we want? Our thanks to Dave, Wayne, and Meirion; and to the members and guests who supported us on the night. If you weren't there, you missed probably one of the best nights at the BBC to date!!!

Guitars, Vocals- Dave Williams
Drums, Vocals- Meirion Sampson
Bass, Vocals- Wayne JonesSo here we find ourselves, seemingly trapped in a world that values STYLE over SUBSTANCE,LOOKS over TALENT,BULLSHIT over TRUTH. The music business is just one microcosm reflecting or should i say suffering from this pernicious diseace. With a combination of backward thinking, plummeting sales and digital piracy, the music industry is a dead man walking,But from the ashes of evey dynasty, has to spring a new order and when the Biz finally realises the need to reinvent itself to survive,it will finally return to the bands that have ALWAYS been there. Those bands that do what REAL bands have always done:using LIVE PERFORMANCE,TALENT & SWEAT to hotwire their audience. With a generation seemingly media-brainwashed into believing that acts are somehow elected or appointed by tv, without playing a single note, one might be forgiven for being cynical about artistes of a certain age..............Introducing Dave Williams(guitar, vocals) who when most 16 year olds were busy looking moody, butt hanging from lip, baggies hanging from butt,he was soaking up the sounds of the blues to fuel his new-found love affair with the guitar,After meeting up with a local drummer Dick Owen & bass player Jack Bass both of late 60s outfit Strawberry Dust, the trio became Rattle,Dave quickly gained a reputation for having abilities beyond his years and outside his generation.just over a decade on he is widely regarded as one of the finest blues, rock guitarists in Wales, witha rich, unpretentious cutting style that pays homage to the old school legends such as Jimi Hendrix,SRV& the three kings Albert,BB& Freddie, but also embraces the innovations of the following generations of players like Robben Ford & Satriani. I know this all sounds too good to be true & you"re probably thinking this young charlatan has simply swallowed too many volumes of MOJO magazine, but unlikely as it may seem, this genuine and modest young man has musicians and journalists flocking to see him play. This brings me to the rhythm section. MEIRION SAMPSON(DRUMS,VOCALS) & WAYNE BACKBONE JONES(BASS,VOCALS).both having played with the legendary Kenny Driscol band. Having played together for the last 15 years on and off with different bands, they are considered by many as one of the finest blues & rock pairings of recent years. Having already been aware of each others reputations,it was when Rattle had run its course that Dave,Meirion and Wayne really got things going. "I'd heard that Dave was playing gigs with Paul Martinez bass player with (Robert plant,Dave Edmunds,Ashton,Pace & lord) so i knew he must be good, but then i had the chance to play drums with them, Dave and myself hit it off straight away, and thats when i knew how good, live he really was" says Meiron. "As soon as Wayne, Meirion and Myself got together,i think we played about 10 or 12 songs that we knew between us,It was amazing,it was like we been playing together for years,Ive played in a lot of different line ups but this is by far the best rhythm section i have ever played" with explains Dave. Wayne goes on"We've not been playing long in this line up,but we can musically read eachothers minds, you have to enjoy doing what you're doing and we're having a great time".BLUETRAFFIC, a unique and explosive chemistry essential to giving the blues&rock genre the shot of adrenaline it so badly needs. At a time when desperation is driving generations of music lovers back to the era when bands were RAW, REAL and RESPECTED,you won't find a better band to rekindle the spirit of classic Rock & Blues music.Phil Hunt
Influences: Hendrix, SRV, Rory Gallagher, EC, Buddyguy, the list goes on you get the picture!
