NMJT - Like NME but 100% cooler

About Me

Hi. I'm James, I'm 19 years old and I founded this online review site NMJT back in 2006. It's like NME but way cooler without the "we-like-it-cause-its-hip" attitude. I started this up through over-analyzing music and found out I may as well stick my own reviews on a website for you lucky people to read for free. As of 2007, unless I have computer problems, the reviews will come monthly with on average 3 album reviews a month. I also have a go at reviewing any gigs that I have the good fortune to attend. Anything that I write will appear in my blogs.
I give every album the time of day (and night) and I allow each bands to have fresh starts when a new album is released. The album scoring system is as follows:
0-3 - Don't bother buying it. No matter how much fans of this artist/band hype it up, it's the musical equivalent of your mum pole dancing.
4-6 - Worth a listen but generally not good enough to part ways with your money.
7-9 - Decent album and definitly worth buying, especially toward the top end of the scale. Albums in this category usually feature in the top albums of the year for NMJT.
10 - An NMJT Classic. You should kill your pole-dancing mother just to attain a copy of it.
In doing these reviews I like to hope that I promote a few musical debates along the way. The "Add Comment" link on both the profile and blog are there for a reason. You got something to say; say it! I'm always looking for a music-related discussion, so I'm more than happy to comment you back if you drop me a line.
Thanks for visiting, I hope you like the reviews. Spread the word about my site! Tell all your friends! Oh, and please, try the fish...

My Interests

Writing Reviews, Listening to music, playing guitar, watching football and drinking copious amounts of intoxicating liqueur.

I'd like to meet:

My favourite musicians. Also: John Mackie and Homer Simpson. I'd also like to be a member of the cast of Lost, just for the sheer hell of it.

Music:

Rockferry - Duffy
"A pure pop gem... every song has the ability to conjure up that very rare quality of sending a chill along the length of your spine"

Pretty.Odd - Panic At the Disco
"A huge departure from the emo-pop sound has resulted in a peach of an album... undoubtedly the best quality is that it keeps improving with each and every listen"

In Rainbows - Radiohead
"Coupled with the innovative releasing technique, this album should truly stand up there with the great albums of this century."

Once Upon a Time In the West - Hard-Fi
"The simplicity of the lyrics, the complicated song structures, the general vibe and varying sounds of suburban England all add up to one hell of an album."

Favourite Worst Nightmare - Arctic Monkeys
"you can do nothing but step back and applaud the sheer talent that these individuals have; this album kicks more backside than the proverbial giant boot"

Take to the Skies - Enter Shikari
"doesn't just take to the skies but smashes up through the stratosphere and spirals out into space with an immense, pulsating rhythm"

Movies:

A Knights Tale, Blues Brothers, School of Rock, Team America: World Police, the first two Matrix films, Lord of the Rings Trilogy.

Television:

The Simpsons, Lost, Prison Break, ER, Never Mind The Buzzcocks, QI, Malcolm In The Middle, Have I Got News For You... otherwise its simply flicking through music channels or watching the football.

Books:

May Contain Nuts - John O'Farrel, Harry Potter (geek!), and various (auto)biographies including: Anthony Kiedis, Jimi Hendrix, Keith Moon, Green Day, Pink Floyd, Monty Python, Murray Walker, Eric Cantona, Motley Crue etc. etc.

Heroes:

Jimi Hendrix, John Frusciante, Slash and John Mackie just to name a few.
