Band Members: Here is my story... (aka - the section where I get to talk about myself for an extended period without the shame of feeling conceited because this section is "About Me" so if you didn't want to know about me then you wouldn't be reading this, therefore (I like using that word, it makes me feel like I'm writing an essay or something equally important, I don't think people use it enough in everyday speech either and I am endeavoring to bring it back.. like Moloko) therefore, if you don't want to hear about me then I suggest that you stop reading now.... you're still reading it aren't you? Its ok, we all do it. I think you just want to see how long I will keep this up for and go on talking about nothing, in which case I must warn you, I can keep this up for quite a while. Ok I got bored.Let us begin. Ok, so if some one told me about 5 years ago that I would a make a living from using a part of my body... wait that came out wrong.... what I mean is, from using my voice (aka: a singer, not a public speaker) then, I would have laughed at them very hard and possibly considered that they had escaped form some sort of mental health facility. But as it turns out, the stars aligned in the the most un-expected way and that's what I do now.... I'm a singer in case you hadn't figured that out yet. I've always loved music and was a dancer for many years, among many things: also a horse trainer and riding instructor, Bar tender, Uni student, Model, Computing Studies Teacher, Promo Girl, Primary School Teacher and "Office Administrator"... ok fine: Secretary...., alright: Coffee Girl. But one day I decided that there was something missing from my life and I couldn't quite figure out what it was so on the advice of a stranger I met out on a random night, I picked up a copy of the every trusty "Drum Media", turned to to the back and stumbled across the "Singer's Wanted" section. I replied to 2 ad's wanting a singer for a cover band and was granted an audition for one. The process was a little bit daunting and as I was about to have the audition it suddenly dawned on me, could I actually even sing? I mean, I really like to sing and have always done it in the privacy of my car or shower (also the garage, great acoustics) but what if I was one of those people like on IDOL that are convinced they are amazing singers and don't seem to question their talent until they are in front of the judges and the judges tell them that they are truly terrible (and even then, sometimes they still don't believe it)... and I'd always think to myself, "how did they not know how terrible they are?". Anyway I have a pretty good ear and I hoped that if I was terrible, I'd probably know about it (but that's probably what those IDOL people think too). Long, long, long (and I mean long) story short, I got incredibly lucky that day. One of the guys in the band turned out to be not only a great musician, but also an awesome guy (check out his band: THE HIPSTONES - awesome Original Soul/Funk 10 Piece band) and he and the band took me on with absolutely no experience and so was the beginning of my new career. I've gained the majority of my experience through live performances with a number of bands and just want to meet, listen to and work with many people as I can.I love that I get to create music and in my limited 'career' so far, I've met and worked with so many interesting and creative people. They are all in my 'Top Friends' (some didn't make it because as a fellow experienced Myspace user, you'll understand that you can only have certain number of friends... at least, that's what I tell the one's that didn't make it)."What am I doing right now?", I hear you ask? Well, that's a very good question.... I sing with an awesome Gospel/Soul group called JUBILATION, who boast backing EVERMORE and last years MTV MUSIC VIDEO AWARDS and are a regular feature at Sydney's annual CAROLS IN THE DOMAIN. I'm in a band called SEDUISANT, which is fronted by beautiful Miss Rachelle Medley and Myself. Come and catch us at a gig soon - check out: www.myspace.com/seduisantsound for updates. I'm also with Sydney based 9 Piece band THE WONDERBRASS - now new and improved with 3 singers fronting the band: Nic Jeffries, Rachelle Medley and Me. They are an all live, 9 piece Jazz, Funk, Pop band. Check out our website: www.wonderbrass.com.au for band members and have a listen to our demo. I also sing with a number of different RnB/Soul/Funk bands from time to time, including THE GOODS, THE USUAL SUSPECTS, ANIMATION.So that's it... if you actually read all this, I'm not quite sure what to think.. that could be a little weird and it probably means your a 'myspace' stalker, which is cool, I'm comfortable with that. And if you perhaps a little bit irritated and annoyed with yourself that you just wasted a good 3 - 4.5 mins of your day reading this, then spare a thought for me: Do you have any idea how long this took to write?Love Nat xxx
Influences: My influences are very broad. A mixture of Pop, Jazz and Rn'B plus much more. Anything with a good groove and a beautiful melody. Brief examples would include: The Diva's - Whitney, Mariah, Christina - they are so inspiring and man can they sing the sh*t out of anything!RnB/Funk - Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Angie Stone, Faith Hill, Brand New Heavies, Donny Hathaway, Roberta Flack, Aretha Fraklin, Marvin Gaye, George Benson, Stevie Wonder, Alicia Keys, Ashanti, Michael Jackson, Donna Summer, The Supremes, Sister Sledge, Earth Wind and Fire, MJ Blige- the list could go on and on and on!The Jazz Icons - Ella Fitzgerald (of course), Dinah Washington, Anita O'Day, Stan Getz and Astrud Gilberto. And some more modern ones -Dianne Reeves, Diana Krall, Daniella Gaha (an Aussie singer with a beautiful voice.)Folk/Soft Rock - Bill Withers, Carol King, Jewel, The Eagles, Rickie Lee Jones (sort of Jazz/Folk/Pop singer with a great tone and some beautiful lyrics), Michael McDonald - can't resist that sexy tone!, Christopher Cross, Hall and Oats - very random taste I know!Pop - Kylie Minogue, what can I say? After all this time, she's still got it!All these people are so amazing and listening to them continues to inspire and teach me.
