Swift Ninja Pt. II Jam
People Can't Fly
Luanjie is a 3 piece band from Buffalo NY, and has been together for a little over four years now. The band consists of Cameron James on guitar and vocals, Andy Steiner on bass and vocals, and Joe Gawlak rockin' the drums. Luanjie came to be as a result of many jam sessions with other local musicians starting around their senior year at Clarence High School. Eventually, the three found they had a certain connection and began practicing and writing regularly in the summer of 2003 under the name "The Groove Junkies." It was this connection, along with a unique style of writing, which was to take pieces of many different improvisations in different genres and arrange them into songs, that inspired them to adopt the new name Luanjie. Luanjie is the chinese word for "Connection Through Chaos," and that's exactly what they are today. The sound they have developed is a mixture of jamband/indie rock with overtones of extreme funk. Although the band has been together four years now, only recently have they began to regularly take their one of a kind sound out of the basement and on to the stage. Luanjie had been well received already at Broadway Joe's "Toys for Tots" concert, Merlins, Mad Tatz, and the stage at Finger Lakes Community College, where Cam and Andy are both graduates of the music and music recording arts programs. Their debut album "Cow Punch" was recorded and mixed by Cam and Andy at FLCC's recording studio, and is now in the process of being produced and released. In the spring of 2007 Joe Gawlak announced that he would be leaving Luanjie and going back to school. Due to Andy and Cam's ambitious goals for the band, it was decided that Luanjie could no longer continue with Joe, and that a replacement would be needed. It only took a few months for Luanjie to begin rehearsing with longtime friend Ryan formerly of Fireside Blues and The Whiskey Suicide. Ryan and Andy had both played in Fireside Blues and formed a strong musical bond through the experience. Luanjie will continue creating never before heard, original music, while maintaining the same direction and goals that it has for the past 4 years with Joe. We wish Joe luck in his pursuits, and thank him for the hours of mind-bending musical explorations that took place in The Basement as well as on stage.Luanjie is now seeking to play out as much as possible, and is willing to play anywhere, anytime.
