Zakia Sahar has been recognized by many as a versatile talent noteworthy of having an artfully suave singing style, a sound that's easy on the ears, but enticing enough to command attention and satisfy those eager to hear more...taking listeners on a journey of natural intoxication.
"I can remember the first time I ever performed live on stage. It was about 8 years ago at an open mic venue in Baltimore. Was I nervous at first? Yes! But as I became a regular on the scene each week, all that subsided and I became more comfortable getting into my groove on stage with the band and connecting with audience members who constantly expressed their enjoyment and heart-felt appreciation. That was the start of a beautiful thing for me. If I could do it all over again, I wouldn't change a thing."

"When I write a word, a phrase, a lyric, a song I capture a feeling, thought, desire, a particular person, place, or thing at that moment in time. I grab whatever I can get my hands on, a napkin, a post it note, a torn piece of paper. Lock in that moment. And my words are true and real. I want the audience to feel that, each moment when I sing."
Getting her groove on...
Several years ago Zakia began her quest into music production. "I've discovered in it another level of freedom. The potential for me to not only learn and grow, but to boundlessly be musically creative on my own terms. Next to singing and songwriting, this takes me on a new creative high." Her original and sample free grooves definitely has personality and purpose.
In addition to recording with local artists and collaborating on special projects over the years, Zakia has graced the stages of several local venues in DC and in Baltimore where she's from. Past performances in the DC area include the H St. Martini Lounge's "Chocolate City Soul", Phish Tea Cafe, and at the U Street Cafe for "Neo Soul Sundays". In Baltimore at Gallery 409, "Warm Wednesdays" at 5 Seasons, "Melodic Confessions" and "Organic Soul Tuesdays" now at Eden's Lounge, "An Eclectic Affair" at the Rush Hour Sports Bar and at Baltimore's Artscape. Currently making occasional appearances in DC and Club 347 in downtown Baltimore.
Zakia Sahar's exciting forthcoming debut EP Unusual Journey is set to release in 2010 shortly after the new year.
