About Me

A Post-Hardcore/Alternative Rock band hailing from Staten Island, New York, A New Shade of Black was born from four aspiring musicians who were brought up and influenced by vastly-different genres of music. From Jazz-Fusion, Funk, and World Music to Punk, Alternative-Rock, Metal, and Hardcore, the band's sound incorperates pieces of each. The product is a sound that is hard, loud, and often fast-paced; but also incorperates melodic, technical, ambient, and fluid moods as well. The songs all have either a story or a message behind them: questioning and lashing out at the problems of either personal life or human society as a whole. The drumming, both earth-shaking and technical, holds a fast-paced beat to move both people in body and in mind. The bass, deep and powerful, gives the sound both a direction and a purpose. Heavy and rythmic guitar riffs remind the listener that this music isn't easy listening, while the keyboards beg to differ: giving an ambient and flowing sound that is reminiscent of a river. Topped off with melodic vocals that seem to call and shout to distant worlds, A New Shade of Black is band NOT to be missed!
