On July 31st I was rescued by "Wild West Dachshunds & Independent Rescue." They saw me in a kennel at Animal Control and noticed I could not walk very well. With the help of AZARS.org, They pulled me out of Animal Control! On my first night home I barely took a few steps. My ears were infested with ticks and my gums and teeth were so bad that my breath smelled rotten. My Foster Mommy spent an hour picking out the ticks and despite my horrible breath, she kept me close by her every second she could. Suddenly on August 5th, I stopped walking and my legs went lame. My new Mommy was very concerned and took me to a Doctor right away. The Doctor gave me a shot in my tooshie and put me on steroids and muscle relaxers. I could still wag my tail and I still had control when I went potty so that was a good thing! My blood work came out normal so I was sent to a Neurologist. After the Neurologist examined me he felt I needed surgery right away! The Doctor said that my disk was ruptured between L1 and L2 in the spine. When Mommy and Daddy told AZARS, they were sad to learn that the rescue did not have enough money to pay for my surgery. Mommy was not about to let me stay like this forever! She sold everything she could on ebay but still didn't have enough money so with what little she had and a little bit of credit, I had my $3,500.00 surgery on Thursday 8/24. I came home Saturday the 26th and I am walking now. I am getting better and better at understanding how my legs are suposed to move... and I can run now! My muscles are stiff from dragging my legs around and I have to be stretched out every night. Mommy and Daddy are tapped out now. Accupuncture, medicine and follow up visits can sure add up... It's hard work when you save a life! If it wasn't for my Foster Mom and Dad and AZARS, Animal Control would have put me down and I wouldn't be here today. I am the second dog they have saved this past year! I am so happy that they have become my forever Mom and Dad now!!!!!!!!I'm a really sweet dog that just wants to play and be loved.
