My myspace address is not just a made up name, I really am an eagletracker. Since December 2000, I have been tracking bald eagles for NYS DEC's Endangered Species Unit. Each winter I track the wintering population of eagles on the Upper Hudson River including stretches of the Mohawk and Hoosic Rivers. Although most of my tracking is now done without electronic equipment, I have used both radio and satellite telemetry to locate eagles in previous years. I cover approximately 200 miles a day and it is not uncommon to locate 10 or so eagles in one day throughout my range. A closeup encounter with a bald eagle is nothing short of spectacular! Over the past 5 years, I have appeared in newspaper cover stories twice because of my work with the eagles. As a bonus, during the winter of 2006-7, after 4 years of searching, I discovered the first known bald eagle nest on the Hoosic River. What an accomplishment! I got to return that May to help band the lone male eaglet in the nest. I called him Little Victor! I hope to continue this work for years to come and hope that someday I will be able to work fulltime as a wildlife biologist.
