Im a guitar player/composer. I've just recorded a studio album with 'The Alcohotlicks' which will be out in October. Me and Ben Hauptmann (the other guitarist in the band) just got back from the National Jazz Guitar Awards where we got 1st and 2nd place. Im also performing and working on a recording with Elana Stone, and my own band 'BAZ'. Other bands I play with are 'Zoe and the Buttercups', grunge jazz trio 'The MFW', 'The Van', and occasionally Vince Jones."When guitarist Aaron Flower won the National Jazz Guitar Awards at Wangaratta last year part of his prize was an invitation to Stonnington Jazz. Flower has previously played at Stonnington with the Alcohotlicks, but this time presented his jazz-blues- country- grunge out fit, Baz. “What on earth is ‘grunge’?†pondered a middle-aged couple sitting behind me as the concert began. Soon they had their answer, as the Sydney quintet launched into a gritty, distortion tinged piece set to an insistent 4/4 beat. Flower’s compositions are as masterful as his playing and the band moved freely through different moods, textures and time feels from the irresistible upbeat swagger of A Bit Like Bach, to the world-weary beauty of Mahler.
