Ryan Emcee calls himself the "musical mastermind." However, this bold and confident moniker does not come without reason. Ryan entered the world of music at an early age. In high school, he played in many different jazz, folk, and rock bands. When asked about being a music aficianado; Ryan said, "I've always wanted to do music cause its always been something I can relate to."
His relationship with music spilled over into his love for all creative art forms. When asked he said, "I enjoy creating things. music, drawing. I've always been into art. It's an outlet for me." Ryan's search for an outlet in order to deal with the many questions and issues of life eventually led him to God. He eventually stopped doing music in order to study ministry. He did not expect that his search for God would bring him back to music.
Ryan recalls, "I was studying to be a minister and I felt that was not my direct calling." However, his love for God and his love for the arts led him to a new calling, hip-hop. With hip-hop incorporating many different kinds of art forms, Ryan felt right at home. Eventually he joined with Quiet Entertainer , to form
ILL Gravy, a hip-hop project that featured Ryan's acoustic & folk rock tendencies and combined them with Q.E.'s electronic background. Together, they released "Any Time".
In 2003,
ILL Gravy split on good terms when Q.E. left college. Ryan, then W-T, began working on his own projects. During this time, he found time to really explore his love for hip-hop and to collaborate with other music lovers. He has worked with drumADDICT & Elevate in Knoxville, TN. He has also shared the stage a wide variety of acts including LA Symphony , Mute Math , Astronautalis , Bluebird , Ill Harmonics , Listener , Bobby Exodus , Man O War , & Spoken Nerd .
Currently, He is preparing to release "The diary of a mad wackmatition", an album with production by Kyle the Net Junkie . Ryan Emcee hopes to play as many shows as he can and connect with as many people as possible. "Hopefully people enjoy the music I create and they will relate to it." With a musical mastermind at work, anything is possible.
