He first wowed millions of television viewers across Latin America when he became a finalist in the hit musical TV show “Operación Triunfo” (the Mexican version of “American Idol”) and is now being considered Mexico's Leading man in the Broadway Musical industry. The singer-actor-dancer was born and raised in the city of Monterrey, where he began his musical training at an early age. Then in 1998 he packed his bags and moved to New York City, where he graduated from The American Musical and Dramatic Academy and attended The School for Film and Television. In NYC he worked as a model and recorded numerous jingles and Spanish radio commercials before playing one of the main roles in the original workshops for the Off-Broadway Musical “Four Guys Named José and una mujer llamada María”. He then went on to become one of the lead singers for Princess Cruises and traveled all over the world performing in their Production Shows. Other musical theatre credits include International Tours and Productions of “West Side Story”, “Evita” and “Les Miserables”.In 2002 Mauricio returned to México and received a big break when he was chosen out of 60,000 people to compete in Operación Triunfo, where not only did he become one of the audience’s favorite contestants and a household name in his country, but was also seen all over Latin America, Italy & Spain. The album Operación Triunfo: Greatest Hits has sold over 800,000 copies in Latin America alone. After that Mauricio recorded the dance single “Levántate”, which was a top 20 hit in 2003 and was included in the Big Brother Soundtrack, having sold 400,000 copies. He then landed the leading role of Tony Manero in the Mexican production of the Broadway Musical “Saturday Night Fever” and enjoyed a successful one year run. His highly acclaimed performance earned him 6 awards from prestigious Press and Theatre Critics Associations in México, including “Best New Artist” and “Best Leading Actor in a Musical”.Mauricio made his television acting debut in 2004 playing one of the starring roles in the hit Mexican soap opera “Clap”, which aired in Univision Channel in the spring of 2005 and was seen just last year in over 15 countries including Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, Honduras, Peru, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Spain, and Italy. In 2006 he starred in the original Mexican musical “Ciudad Blanca”, with music by Armando Manzanero, México’s most prestigious and well known love composer. He was recently seen in the Mexican hit TV series “Mujer” and got rave reviews for his special guest appearance in the hit TV show “Bailando y Cantando por Un Sueno” (the Mexican version of “Dancing With The Stars”) this last fall. Enjoying a successful and growing career in television, music & theatre, Mauricio recently made his film debut in the American movie “Species: The Awakening”, which was released in October 2007.
