Red Line Riot was first cooked up in an Austin, Texas kitchen in late 2006 when longtime Steamroller bandmates and 30+year-hoodlums Kevin and Brando hooked up with longtime friend and co-conspirator Dug to form a trio. Additionally, they formed a three-piece band.
Since 2006, Red Line Riot has performed over 100 gigs in Austin, playing at about 25 different locales. The band's home away from home is Headhunter's, where RLR has played more than 30 times.
The band's initial interest was to be reincarnated as The Jimi Hendrix Experience and/or Band of Gypsys. Although coming close, the band failed to achieve full reincarnation and remains in the 21st century. However, the band was able to meet Band of Gypsys drummer and vocalist Buddy Miles before his passing (see blog post for story and picture).
Red Line Riot plays mostly original material, but is well-known for blazing Hendrix and crazy Elvis covers. The band blows up the trio format by, well, overplaying -- but no one has really complained yet. Big riffs, throaty vocals, lots of guitar solos, and the occasional sweet harmony.
The band is intensely political, but only the issues of school zones, the use of road flares for recreational activity, and billboards in the sky. The band is flatly against two of the three. Also, the band has been known to protest BBQ restaurants that close before 10pm.
Red Line Riot songs focus on odd women, being a tad lazy, mean women, heat, hot women, water control issues, and the fact that the band doesn't think they're any better than you. The band is indeed lazy about a lot of things, but rocking isn't one of them.
The band's biggest mutual interests are Star Wars, Elvis & Jimi & Rush & Van Halen & AC/DC, Longhorns football, rocking out, guitars, drums, Playstation, and Jack in the Box tacos.
