About Me
Jared Johnson grew up in a little place called Belton, Texas, a town full of the stuff of country music—cowboys and rodeos, Friday night lights, young love, Jesus, and small town gossip about the latest addiction, betrayal, or broken heart. Like many artists, Jared’s first taste of music came from sitting in the pews of the local Baptist church; he learned to sing to the tunes of gospel classics like “Rock of Ages†and “Amazing Grace.†Jared would not sing his first solo, however, until his senior year in high school. So, naturally, when he stepped on the tiny church stage with a Fender guitar, a few memorized chords, and his distinctive voice, the congregation was more than moved, they were shocked. Soon, however, Jared was known around town for his musical talent, performing anywhere he could from wedding chapels to backyard parties.
At the age of 22 and after graduating from college and playing four years of college football, Jared headed out to Nashville to pursue his dream of singing and writing. For four years, Jared paid his dues, waiting tables at a steakhouse near Music Row. But in his spare time, Jared was actively pursuing his career goals any way he knew how. Eventually, Jared became a stronger writer and performer by learning from some of Nashville’s best songwriters. Too, Jared spent time in Arlington, Texas, performing at Cowboy's four nights a week.
His patience and determination have paid off. In November of 2006, Jared was signed to a publishing deal with Big Loud Shirt Publishing and has been working under Craig Wiseman, acclaimed writer of numerous number one hits, including “Believe†by Brooks and Dunn, “Live Like You Were Dying†by Tim McGraw, and “The Good Stuff†by Kenny Chesney. And most recently, Jared has worked with Chris Thompkins, also a writer at Big Loud Shirt, who penned Carrie Underwood’s recent number one hit “Before He Cheats†along with "Bama Breeze" for Jimmy Buffet.
