About Me

Fadhil Nkurlu, a Tanzanian musician (pianist/composer/singer/producer/song writer) born in the heart of Tanzania grew up in a musical atmosphere. He started learning music at Tanzania Music Conservatoire and The Royal Schools of Music when he was 9 years old. He holds a grade 7 certificate for piano from the world's leading music examining board, the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. At the age of 16, Fadhil started playing Organ at Azania Lutheran Church in Dar-es-salaam where he was also a member of the choir. Fadhil, performed with many local bands in Twin Cities like Mila Band, Ananse Band, African Musical Experience and Marimba Africa. He has played with big musical names in Africa like Samba Mapangala, Lokassa Ya Mbongo, Ngouma Lokito, Shimita. In 2004 Fadhil presented music workshop at University of Northern Iowa with Kelly Armor who is a musician, storyteller, ethnomusicologist, and oral historian. The same year, Fadhil joined Kelly to teach African music through field recording, folktales and narratives at Chautauqua Institution in New York State. His two songs Mazowea and Safari are part of the sound tracks for a movie called TUSAMEHE. Currently, Fadhil who also holds a degree in Engineering from Winona State University in Minnesota is currently working on his first Album.
